I didn’t read it wrong. I said exactly what it said on my post. I had the message that everyone had but then it changed this morning. Now, it’s back to the December 24th message.

Just curious as to why people speculate that OOS seem to have less of a Chance of getting in? Seems like Having the school getting kids paying out of state rates would be more beneficial. All things being equal of course

It may be beneficial financially but U of M is built out of the State of Michigan Charter and has to serve the students of the state first - it’s almost at a 50-50 (In-state / OOS) ratio now. A few years ago it tipped slightly in favor of OOS and I think it was a big no-no. It was a tiny fraction of a percentage over I think? Tell me if I am wrong.

We are local and and it feels like they only take so many from the city, although maybe a higher percentage than most high schools. It’s super competitive to get in, and engineering has less spots available and less spots accepted for EA.

So we expect deferment today. But still excited to pass this milestone, and excited for all of you!

Also, I was thinking that by not announcing the decision date prior, it leaves those with IVY ED acceptances to make a.xecision on how long to wait. If they are willing to gamble how long it will take UM and how long they are willing to wait to give their withdrawal per the ED rules. Smart on UM part so that more IVY ED will withdraw without know when UM will release.

Taken from the last 3 years of CDS’s, the % of freshman from OOS, not including international students, which is about 3%:

2018-2019 (Class of 2022) 45%
2017-2018 (Class of 2021) 46%
2016-2017 (Class of 2020) 47%

The CDS for the Class of 2023 is not available yet.

Sk8ter, that’s a fact: “of the 65,684 applications, 12,521 were submitted by in-state students with 5,141 being offered admissions for an acceptance rate of 41.1 percent. From among the 44,014 applications submitted by students living in states other than Michigan and the 9,149 applicants living in other countries, 10,327 were offered admission for an out-of-state acceptance rate of 19.4 percent.”

For the record, this quote is taken from a press release published in June of 2018 for the Class of 2022. The 2018-2019 CDS has updated figures. For example, a total of 64,917 apps were received with 14,818 students accepted, which results in a 22.8% overall acceptance rate.

Since those results threads don’t always get a tremendous amount of participation, probably because it’s another place you have to visit, for me, I plan to tally the stats from this thread, if everyone feels comfortable posting them here in this thread.

All I ask, is that you post the following, again, only if you feel comfortable:

1. Result (accepted, deferred or rejected)
2. Instate or OOS
3. School applied to [LSA, CoE, Kinesiology, Nursing, SMTD, etc.)
4. Preferred admission to Ross?
5. uwGPA
6. SAT or ACT score submitted.

Is there a pattern that you have noticed for the members that are on this site, similar threads for UM Admissions. Have you seen that many are accepted EA? I think we are a subset of people looking for more information and many have pretty strong stats for getting in… is there a high level of “ACCEPTED” in this group, taking into account we are a small portion of those that applied?

Also I was looking at the CDS and perhaps I skimmed too quickly, but could not find OOS information. What section is it under?

Hi! I was accepted on 12/12 and received my notification via an email from SMTD as well as an email from Enrollment Connect that there had been an update to my status.

3. SMTD as Dance major

Hey!! Current UM freshman here- just wanted to hop on and wish everyone good luck!! I remember the day I got accepted so well (OOS, EA). We had no confirmation that the decisions would be out at 3 that day, but I checked my portal anyways at 3 and the decision was there! However, the email didn’t get send to me until about 6. Trust me, everything will work out how it is supposed to! When I got in, I had just gotten rejected from my ED school and was devastated. I had no idea where I would end up but now, I can’t picture myself anywhere but Michigan! Good luck, and feel free to message me with any questions!

Amongst this cohort there are many acceptances, and deferrals as well. But I didn’t tally them in prior years. I plan to do so this year along with the other stats. In prior years, info was very hit or miss.

Reading this page made me realise I literally have no shot at getting in haha
My gpa is around 3.7, 33 ACTs…my dad did go to u mich and I really wanted to carry on the legacy, but doesn’t seem very realistic anymore…
International student so that doesn’t help me much either
