Are y’all not up until like 1am anyways?? I always have so much work that I procrastinate hahaha
12 is only 9 on the west coast so not a problem for us, doubt it will happen though
Two years ago, we knew someone who applied RD and was accepted before Dec 24. Which made we wonder why even apply EA. This year, we are awaiting EA decision for my second child. Good luck to all
How many on here would accept right away if UMich was a yes here in EA??
Do Umich sends email to applicants to notify that decision is come out on release day?
I bet Mrs. Block is watching us and just laughing so hard. She is probably right. Well…I’ll see you folks tomorrow. I have two exams tomorrow and two on Friday so I am hoping that they come out already so I do not have to keep waiting. @sushiritto thank you for all of the past year’s data.
@Lis1011 they do, but the email usually comes out a few hours later…just like their social media posts
me, I’ll definitely mention that in my LOCI if I am deferred which is most likely @FoxRulz
I just got an email with my acceptance!!!
Please don’t stay up until midnight. Nothing is happening then or any other point this evening.
Though final exams end Friday and students will be done, the university and admissions office are still open Monday and Tuesday. That’s why they say “by December 24” each year.
As it’s been pointed out, U-M receives more early applications than just about anybody. Several other popular public schools, all with smaller volume, don’t release until January. Some have October 15 deadlines. Michigan is turning around more decisions in a shorter window than anybody in the country. It’d be nice if they could give a specific release date, but that would require they commit to a date without knowing how many applications they might receive, and if they can actually get through them all in time. By saying the 24th it gives them some flexibility to make sure they actually evaluate everything and have time to prepare the decisions.
Every year the rumors spread about U-M not having time to review all of the EA apps. If that were so, why would they still release decisions between December 14-20 those years and not just wait a few more days to review more? The reality is that not every applicant with a 3.9/35 is a sure thing. Their apps have gone up, their yield has increased, and they’ve become highly selective - especially for out of state students. If you’re a student with an outstanding gpa and test scores and still get deferred, don’t assume it’s because they did not read your file.
That also goes for the conspiracy theories about yield protection and deferring students that are “over-qualified”. Selectivity is not a part of the US News or other major ranking methodologies. Average test scores and grade point averages of admitted students often are though. If they were really trying to improve their rankings, Michigan could easily just take the students with the best gpas and test scores. Then why bother asking for recommendation letters and all of the supplemental essays? That’s what holistic review is all about. They’re trying to build a class of students that have great academic preparation, yes, but also bring other traits and unique qualities to their campus.
It’s an anxious time for everybody applying, and the anticipation does cause the stress to build up. Thanks @sushiritto for all of your historical knowledge and helpful posts. Best of luck everyone at 3pm on Thursday!
i’ve spent my whole day refreshing this forum i’m so anxious! i’m also really excited to see the results. i strongly believe everyone will all end up where they are supposed to be, and that place might or might not be mich! anything that happens tomorrow is supposed to happen! wishing everyone the best of luck and positive energy !!!
Most of the majors at Umich are very difficult to transfer into. If you are LSA, you will never get in to Engineering or Ross, SI is hard too, as is that other Org major. Assume if you go LSA, most likely you will have to stick with it. I speak form having students at Umich. The school is big and crowded and competitive.
Your daughter may have applied EA, but something didn’t get in in time, when that happens they put you into the regular decision pool. Like letter of rec, or transcript, or test score.

Other school stats.
@SandAndSeaGal. Your comments are so wrong. Cross campus transfer into engineering is pretty straightforward and not that difficult. People transfer from LSA into many majors. Doubt you have students there for some reason… ?.
Dude, if your grammar and English is that bad, you’re just wasting your time.
Anyone know how much weight is put on the why Michigan essay?
I literally made an account just to reply to you: no one cares, and “anything that happens…is supposed to happen” holds the implication of predestination you Puritan. Please take your “positive energy” elsewhere as this is supposed to be an informative forum, not a I’m a teenager with emotions and need to express them or else I’m going to explode.
We were told they will always go back to the why Michigan essay for admissions decisions. If you can copy and paste another school in your essay, then it really wasn’t an essay on specifically UM.
welp, not out at 12 est… hopefully in 15 hours they will be released. good luck everyone.
