Class of 2024 Early Action Thread

@momzilla2D Oooh…if this does happen, I want to be at your home the day of the tOSU vs Michigan game. The tension (possible fight?) at your home may be more interesting than the game itself!

ACCEPTED into the School of Nursing. I’m still shocked that this really happened.

OOS
First gen
Demo: Black, Female, Virginia resident
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.31 W
SAT: 1390 superscore
EC: Key Club for four years (Webmaster), Yearbook for two years (editor both years), HOSA ( I ran a health bulletin board) 10th and 12th grade, NHS, SAYS (club where we lead students in STEM activities at local elementary school), volunteer for Camp Invention (a five day, program where you spend eight hours with kids and teach them STEM). Hundreds of volunteer hours from Key Club and NHS.
Honors: No national awards or anything but I was accepted in the Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s School at Radford University.
Essay: I wrote about how I dealt with my fear of public speaking and anxiousness overall. And then for nursing I wrote about how seeing a nurse care for my father when he had pulmonary embolism inspired me to do the same.

I tried my best to be as detailed as possible. Congratulations to those who got accepted and strength to those who are still waiting or were rejected. You all are amazing!

Shocked I wasn’t outright rejected. GPA is horrible.
Deferred
OOS (Illinois)

Extremely good Letters/Essays/EC’s

does postponed mean deferred? what is the x theory everyone is talking about?

@martpinnc
Yes postponed=deferred.
The X theory…before decisions were officially released, someone found a backdoor link into the admissions checklist. Some students had a line for “Final HS Transcript” with an X indicating it has not yet been received. Some didn’t have that line at all. Theory was that if you had the X Final HS Transcript line, you were accepted; if not, you were deferred or denied. Turned out to be true.

eta: theory was they’d only request final hs transcript if you were accepted

Has anyone NOT received an email from u of M yet? My son has been accepted (checked the portal) but still no email. In-state. Last name letter C

For everyone deferred - Please do not give up hope! Keep your grades up and your head high. My daughter was deferred in 2015, got accepted in the very last wave and now is a proud alum. I wish everyone all the best.

Interesting re Xs, so did some have fall grades in their list? I didn’t have that, am 3.98 UW GPA so maybe they dont need them. Am sending them anyway along with LOCI. Interesting process this year for sure.

when do you find out if you have been accepted off of deferral

So i guess we should be checking to see if we have that X from here

@DG
Yes, some who didn’t have the X for final hs transcript, did have an x for fall grades <= those were deferred too, but not all those deferred had the x for fall grades.

And good point…deferred students mat want to keep an eye on that checklist link to see if it (the X) makes an appearance. Also, someone else pointed out that there are other schools who use enrollment connect and may have the same backdoor clue.

Here’s the link btw…

Last few years lots of emails went to the junk /spam mail.

still no email…weird

Yeah imagine if we all depended solely on email. We’d still be waiting!

Accepted to LSA!! (had X)
In-state
Black female
One sitting 1490, 17E
4.0uw/4.6w
1/~400, attend an underperforming school but rigorous half-day program
7 APs: Lang (4) Stats (5) ← sent to Umich remaining 5 are senior year course load
ECs: community-centered, with few leadership positions (team awards for one EC was listed)
No Individual Awards (had some, didn’t think they were worthy)
Good, unique essays
Waived right, but I believe my recs were strong

Side note: There was someone in my school without the X and got in as well. Also any gcs?

So this is weird. I reported upthread that D20 was accepted to LSA and denied to SMTD (applied dual degree). Yesterday there were 2 letters on her portal, the LSA acceptance letter and the SMTD denial letter. Today, only the LSA acceptance letter is there; the SMTD letter is gone! Wonder if that means anything? SMTD makes it very clear that they don’t participate in EA and follow a completely different timeline. D20 submitted her artistic portfolio on 12/1 (SMTD deadline) and has not yet been invited to audition in person. So, now I’m wondering if yesterday’s SMTD denial was a mistake.

Wishful thinking? Anyone had a similar experience?

Last year I didn’t see one person on this forum get rejected; everyone was admitted or deferred. I know engineering is tougher than LSA but I’m still surprised you were rejected with your stats, in-state. I would suggest you double-check the portal and your email, and then contact them and confirm.

I just got my deferral yesterday and I just wanted to see if any of y’all could help me pin point a reason why or if I should even try again for regular because Michigan was my top but I have applied to 10 colleges.

ACT: 35 (composite)
SAT: 1510 (800 in math but this is super score)
GPA: 4.36 (weighted) only 1 B+ ever all rest are A’s
9 APS
Alot of ECs
Really good and well done essays (I had a lot of counselors)
White female

Also, two guys from my private school got in with lower gpa’s and scores than me and not by athletics.

Oh and I applied to LSA and one of the boys did as well, the other to the engineering school.
