Class of 2024 Early Action Thread

I wanted to address this comment from a historical perspective. Yes, in prior years, there were at least two different deferred emails sent by UMich, but there was never a correleation established between an acceptance and the type of deferral letter.

This year, UMich is using Enrollment Connect, instead of Wolverine Access, and so far it appears that all deferred students received only the one response, unless I missed something along the way?

Postponement means deferral, but did everyone with a deferral receive this same ā€œpostponementā€ response?

@anastasiad. No one can tell you what to do. But do you want to give up so easily? This is just a game and not a reflection of you. Your stats are great. Decide if you want to play and go for it. ?

My youngest, who’s a HS junior, recently said she wants to apply to OSU next year, but only out of spite. I told her that I’m not paying for anything to apply or attend OSU. Find another school somewhere else in the US, but not OSU.

@momzilla2D Isn’t doesn’t hurt to check with SMTD. I think I would.

In prior years, emails went out in the evening, maybe 10-12 hours post-release. But they changed to Enrollment Connect, so not sure about this year.

My Michigan Alum wife told my son he can apply anywhere he wants but not OSU. When I mentioned he would get great merit she yelled at me and wouldn’t speak to me for a week. That was 3 years ago and I think she still mad at me. ?

Well, Bama is still in play.

Did anyone start a thread for Deferred EA?? thx

Yes, for deferred EA students please head on over to the UMich 2024 RD thread, since you folks are now considered RD.

So took the SAT again and got a 1460. My last score is 1360. I got deferred, should I send this new score to Michigan?

@Knowsstuff Thank you for the encouragement and advice. I guess I was just a little shocked, but what you said makes sense.

After the New Year, I’d call them and ask.

Just got deferred. OOS, SAT 1590, unweighted GPA 4.0, 13 APs (5’s on all 7 taken so far), good essays, volunteer EMT (emergency medical technician), published author in 3 scientific journals, captain of 3 clubs, 4-year varsity sport, placed in multiple national competitions, white female.

I go to a magnet school; a lot of really qualified people were deferred, while those who got in were good, but not excellent. Wondering if Michigan is only admitting people they predict will have a good chance of accepting the offer…

Deferred
1450 SAT
3.976 UW GPA / 4.322 W
In state
Very solid ECs and activities
I thought very well written essays
LSA —> preferred Ross
If I submit my LOCI right away, what are my chances and what’s the earliest I can hear back?

@chillywaters
I haven’t received an email yet either. In-state, accepted.

@sushiritto do you know what the acceptance rate is for deferred students?

I know of a lot of very unhappy kids who are still hoping to get an acceptance in the Rd round. Thanks!

Been lurking for weeks (and during fall of 2014). Very helpful forum. Joined to add data for my daughter who was accepted yesterday:

In-State, accepted LSA
3.9gpa, unw
1470 SAT
9 AP classes
2-3 ECs per year
had the ā€œxā€ for final transcript

Best wishes to all the excellent candidates on CCwho are deferred. Thanks again for the shared information.

@socaldad2002 No, sorry, I don’t know the acceptance rate for deferred students.

FWIW, for the Class of 2022, there were 40,000 EA apps and 25,000 ā€œtrueā€ RD apps. UMich accepted roughly 8,000 of those 40,000 EA apps. So, the deferred apps were ā€œlumpedā€ into the pool of 25,000 RD apps.

Just an FYI to everyone, I’ve started to tabulate the EA results/stats from the last couple days, but it’ll take some time to get thru everything. Thx.

Accepted
Instate
LSA (preferred Ross)
1350 SAT
31 ACT
4.0 GPA unweighted
4 AP classes

Nervous about getting into Ross since seeing everyone else’s stats

One other thing, which I’ve mentioned previously. In the past, UMich has released waves of RD decisions on or about 2/1, 3/1 and 4/1. The 2/1 release is nearly all acceptances, if not all acceptances, and then acceptances decrease as the later RD waves unfold and you see waitlisted applicants and more rejections.
