Class of 2024 Early Action Thread

@88jm19 yes we are beginning to weigh all the options. I believe he is torn between UMich Illinois and Indiana.
Michigan bc of the OOS tuition costs
Indiana bc of the large size of business school and although Kelley is top rated if you decide IB you have to get into that program as well.

Illinois will be cheapest bc we live in Illinois but are planning on moving in 2022/23 to Michigan. I’m a UIUC alum and my DS does like it and could play hockey. Also has good friends going there for sure.
Michigan is still in the running. We’ve visited a few times and each time he loves it more…

Deferred at EA, any chances at RD?

OOS applied to CS @ LSA

Academics:
IB diploma
4.0 uwGPA
1530 SAT
780 SAT Math II, 780 SAT Physics

Extracurricular:
President of FRC Robotics club that won Worlds.
Highly trained pianist with multiple performances at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie.
USA Karate National Qualifier State Gold medalist in Kumite and Silver in Kata.

I asked this above, but anyone know when we will hear back about deferrals from EA for out of state applicants?

@2a1ndebate I’m not sure so sorry I can’t help but I started a new thread for deferred applicants if you want to comment on that. I think last year some people heard feb 2nd

WHEN WILL THE DECISIONS FOR DEFERRED STUDENTS BEGIN?

As it has been stated earlier, decisions are usually released with the RD applications in waves. In the past years, they have been released on 2/1, 3/1, and 4/1 with a few stragglers between. There isn’t a specific time to hear back, but it will be somewhere in that range.

Is there a thread for UMich Housing in campus and best meal option for first year student? Or if any one can provide info based on your experience.

https://housing.umich.edu/diversity-inclusion-um-housing/

Read through this first. It will have information on both. For dining it is usually suggested to get the plan with the most meals first then see how it goes. But if you don’t eat breakfast or will eat in your room like cereal then you might not want that option. We found out quickly that our kids where not using there meal cards as much as we thought. They started to decrease it the next semester /year.

We decided that just actually paying as you go was a lot cheaper for us in the long run. Your mileage might vary… Lol…

Blue bucks are always a good idea

accepted ea and submitted fafsa and css profile- anyone know when i will receive my financial aid letter?

In enrollment connect, it says mid-January

I submitted my LOCI today, and my first semester grades are finalized on Jan. 10. Am I already behind a lot of other students in submitting my LOCI? and for grades not being sent until after the 10th, will that affect which wave my decision could come out? Thanks. OOS to LSA btw

Lots of high schools won’t have grades ready until mid/end of January. I think you’re fine.

Here’s one person’s opinion. Putting Markley at #9 is questionable from what I’ve heard.

Edit: here’s another dorm guide and opinion.

To add to always great advice given by @Knowsstuff re meal plans…

I thought there was another quirk with the meal plans. You can always go to a lesser meal plan but cannot bump up. So start high and adjust lower!

As a student, you will rarely go hungry at Michigan. There are so many events, company presentations etc etc that if you go and get involved - you will find something. But dont do that in lieu of getting a lesser meal plan. It always good to know that you have 3 meals covered since it will get crazy at times with demaned on your time.

Do you happen to know the format, selectivity for the Engineering Leadership Weekend. We would like to go but we have competing priorities that weekend.

Is it really worth spending 3 days. We will be third generation at M, if DC decides to go and we dont need the sell. Does anyone happen to know the agenda.

Any guidance will be appreciated.

Sorry, no help here. DC is LSA.

So call and make sure things have not changed but it’s for just a select few students, like less then 100 that were accepted EA. You have lectures series and go to the Big House for a tour. All expenses are paid for you. There is no obligation to attend Michigan or not. Seems like an information and let’s get you really excited weekend.

I would call and make sure no scholarship opportunities are associated with going.

Other then that it’s a free weekend to meet like minded students. I am pretty sure you get a t-shirt also and can’t have too much Michigan swag ??

Hey deferred gang, I wrote my LOCI and submitted and the checklist says I have all required materials turned in. However, I still have to send in my fall grades for this year. My school goes by trimesters tho, so would I tell my counselor to send my first trimester grades to Umich? through common app?

Call Michigan tomorrow. They are officially back on Wednesday. Ask the question directly so you have the correct answer. You and your counselor can reach out to your AO also. It’s a legitimate question since their doing things differently this year.
