Class of 2024 Early Action Thread

@pigspie

School is closed and i doubt anyone will respond. My DC sent an LOCI to Ross few years back when he didnt get in the first wave and he was crushed. It all worked out later…

Put thought into the letter and have a hook as an update to grades, an award or something new. I dont know if writing about Michigan being your top choice will help.

Some will say that Ross is no question, competitive.

@gummybear202… Worth it? That depends. What’s your end goal? If your asking if you “need” Ross to go into business then the answer is no. But being in Ross does have its advantages.

Just as an aside… The support you can get at Michigan is very great. Your goals and aspirations are up to you and how hard you want to work for it. Nothing is spoon fed.

@gummybear202

Is Ross cutthroat? Yup - but you find a similar culture at other premier undergrad business schools that are historical feeders into finance and consulting (Stern, Wharton). This is the academic culture those industries currently reward, but things are (slowly) changing.

Tangible Benefits of Ross compared to alternatives at Michigan: The VERY generous curve, the best career resources on campus, by far (besides maybe Athletics career resources), the best facilities/physical study resources compared to any school on campus (us non-Ross people always loved having a Ross friend who could book us Group study rooms or help us out with extra printing pages), higher perceived prestige compared to other options for people wanting to go into Investment Banking, Management Consulting, Private Equity, and the like.

Absolutely, yes still tallying, but I’m currently on hiatus until the New Year.

Has anyone who was accepted gotten their packet in the mail or knows when those will be sent?

Yes, we got ours sometime last week (been out of town, had mail on hold, collect today). It has the letter (same thing that you see on Portal), certificate of admission, tuition info etc. and Campus day Info. Was expecting flag/car decals etc. but no such stuff

@RaLaSrSa Are you in state or OOS, in CoE? We are OOS accepted to CoE, received only email, no paper mail.

InState, LSA.

I haven’t gotten mine yet either (OOS, CoE).

Nothing here in MA yet either.

My son received his packet yesterday. OOS Illinois accepted to LSA.

When is financial aid typically released?

DS got into UMich, DA to Kelley school of business at Indiana, Gies school of business at UIUC, Penn State Smeal school of business and Wisconsin school of business…UMich is his first choice but waiting on acceptance into UM Ross school of business. Got scholarship money from Kelley but nowhere else yet.

Lots of decisions!!!

OOS illinois
ACT 30
GPA 3.98w/4.46 weighted
4 year all honors courses
5 APs and one dual business class
Varsity hockey and lacrosse player, NHS, big brother, Spanish club, ISS…Leadership awards and service project top award…very good ECs and recommendations

We’ve owned a home in Michigan since 2015 that we have planned on moving to in 2022 once DS graduates HS…would be nice to get instate for a year or two!

Congrats to everyone!

Congrats… But having a house in Michigan won’t qualify him for instate.

@linnea213 congrats on such great choices…would be great to get in state vs. 75k/year…all good options.

correct but relocating to Michigan does

Not necessarily… I know Michigan is really picky on this. But yes would be awesome for a few years.

This might have been answered above, but if we were deferred, when do we hear back?

@linnea213 congrats! My DS compared Michigan, Indiana and Illinois in 2015. The 3 schools may all be Big 10 schools, but we found interesting differences when majoring in business.

Discussing these differences helped my son make his decision…in our case, in-state Gies. In my opinion it helped him to mentally commit and avoid second-guessing and regrets.

Things you may want to research:

  • number of business majors
  • flexibility in declaring a major
  • personal and professional growth opportunities…and maybe more importantly, the level of competitiveness. Kids don’t realize some majors, business frats, clubs, etc require applications and/or interviews.
  • study abroad, if your son is interested
  • business career services and job placement
  • AP credit, double majoring and possible minors

Comparing the schools in the areas important to your DS may help him not only enjoy his time in college, it may lead to a better post-graduation outcome. Your son has wonderful schools from which to choose. Good luck and congrats again!

I got in as international, should I expect Michigan to send a welcome packet or is that only for domestic students?
