Class of 2024 Early Action Thread

there is speculation that the first wave (tomorrow) is solely acceptances, but every wave after that is a mix of everything.

It’s not speculation, yes the entire 1st wave was acceptances last year, but that’s only here on this forum. There could be waitlisted and rejected applicants in the 1st wave, but those applicants didn’t post here last year or the prior year. We’re only talking about 44 decisions last year in both the 1st and 2nd wave. There were 65,000 total decisions last year and the prior year.

Small sample size.

@sushiritto i was talking about ross decisions; are you talking about RD or ross?

@saltypretzel RD, not Ross.

does the fact that my enrollment deposit and letter viewer did not disappear indicate that I’m not gonna get my ross results back tomorrow?

Okay guys I don’t know a lot and just made my account to ask this - If I was deferred from LSA in the EA round and I did NOT apply to Ross, is there a possibility I will receive a decision tomorrow or is it just for Ross applicants?

Ross decisions are a near certainty tomorrow barring any glitches. Decisions for LSA and CoE (Nursing, Kinesiology, etc.) tomorrow are a very good possibility based on patterns from prior years. IMO.

^^^^^this!!

@sushiritto @Knowsstuff Do you have any stats on how many people hear from Ross on the first wave? smaller wave, larger wave, any insight?

@saltypretzel. This is in general terms. Think of it as a funnel. This was is the large opening in the funnel. Next wave it gets smaller. Next wave even smaller… So in theory these next two waves have better chances of getting in. Make sense. No other stat then that.

We will have to see if this new software their using yields more decisions then in the past years in the early rounds.

Hey I was wondering what effect would it have if I sent in my LOCI but didn’t send in my updated grades for this past semester? If anyone has any insight on what effect this will have on my admission chances that would be super helpful!

Just for insight into my situation I was deferred from the College of Engineering, I have a have a 35 superscore ACT, 1500 superscore SAT applied to college of engineering. I have pretty good ECs and and have a lot of leadership positions. The main reason I think why I got deferred was because of my GPA which is a 3.741 unweighted and 4.277 weighted, my UofM GPA is a 3.69. I have been taking a lot of online classes because im from a pretty small school in rural Michigan, so I have taken classes which is not even offered by my school. The reason I’m asking this is because my 1st semester grades for this year have been pretty subpar but I am taking all AP classes so I was wondering what would happen if I didn’t send my updated grades?

The loci is optional. Grades are not. Taking all APs and having it drag down your GPA is only confirming to Michigan that you might not be ready for their rigor. But the GPA is low. But… If your rural they take that into account. Your compared to your school… Remember that. Challenging yourself is what they want to see. You don’t have to be perfect…

Based on when last year’s wave of admissions came out for EA applicants, we should hear something back today.

About the mid-year grades - some schools (like son’s) dont send the mid-year reports until second week of Feb. If Michigan is particular about mid-year grades, these students may not hear in the first wave of acceptances. Is this true? (are there any past instances where students got the response back even before mid-year reports were sent).

DS20 sent the LOCI sometime back - he mentioned his then current grades but the official report will be sent in second week of feb - wondering if they missed the Feb acceptance boat or if there is still a chance. tia.

@hs2020dad this has been asked and answered many times.

Yes, some kids got in without grades even when they were requested. But Michigan is doing some things differently this year.

Michigan is very aware that some kids won’t get their grades in due to their school procedure. A response from someone that called is that to send them on asap. They would like to get them by the second week of February. Most likely for the March release or maybe later February release. No one can be sure.

My son sent an email to his area rep. to let him know his school would be sending mid year grades as soon as they were ready. It will be after Feb.1st.

Would the previous ā€œX-theoryā€ work right now for deferred applicants waiting for a decision?

If I got deferred in December but applied to Ross BBA, is there a good chance that I will find out about LSA/Ross today? And at what time?

I’ll tell you what I do know. There are roughly 500 spots available for the Ross Class of 2024. And I bet that there’s a high yield rate, because Ross BBA is ranked #3 in the country tied with Cal. And you have to go through the torture of more essays/portfolio. So, that’s going to eliminate a lot of look-y-loos.

So, maybe about 700-800 +/- (total guess) kids will be accepted in the 4 Ross release dates. Maybe someone has better info? Anyway, I’ll speculate that 50% or more are admitted in the first wave. So, you’re maybe talking about 350-400 acceptances today, at least in my wacky scenario.

Just to give you an idea, though it’s a wild guess.
