Class of 2024...How did drop-off go?

P22/23 and kind of missing the excitement of moving in as S23 flew back on his own and D22 is going to commute this year to be closer to her student teaching assignment.

Doing drop-off on Friday of this week for D24!

Dropped S25 on Saturday and it went great! School was very organized and efficient, so no lines. Plenty of large rolling bins. We got everything cleaned, packed, and unloaded in about 2 hours (he is a minimalist), then made a grocery run and said good bye. So far, everything we have heard from him has been very positive. He has called a couple of times but calls have been brief because he is always heading off to an activity. He likes his roommate and suitemates so far and seems to be making friends. Classes started today and he reported that he did make it to class and that they went well!

D24 heads off to school next week, so one more to go.

Dropping both our twins off at the same university this Sunday.

Dreading it. They have lived in this house for almost 19 years. It will be very, very difficult.

Good thing my spouse and I have a great tme together. Still it will be like stepping through a portal into a strange world for us.

The kids will do great, and they’re more than excited about it. But one just urged us to keep our household Instagram account up to date. Sob, sob.

We’re on our flight home after the weekend in D24’s college city and a Monday drop-off. Super smooth all around. Exciting. Exhausting. Emotional (for me). I hesitate to speak too soon, but it seems to be a perfect fit for D24. Will write more in the 2024 thread.

Drop off went really really well. Of course, it felt like the hottest day of the year and we were all super sweaty and stinky at the end of the day.

D24’s room is bigger than I expected so that’s a nice plus. We had to run to the store to buy a few extra things like a rug and a stepstool and some snacks. Roommate has a car so that’s a nice plus. Student orientation was a 3 day thing that ended yesterday and first day of classes are today.

D24 is going to join choir so she can connect with people and do something for fun outside of class. She has an audition lined up this week.

D24 said that “all of the people pushing Greek life are annoying. I’m not signing up for that. I don’t want to have to dress like everybody else all of the time. It’s weird.” Her colleges’ frats and sororities don’t have separate houses :house: / buildings like most other colleges do.

Yesterday was an opening convocation for new students and seniors. Freshman class also did a service project in the afternoon.

Info sessions during parent orientation were great and we learned a lot from it. Very helpful and it eased our worries about her being a couple of states away. All of the parents on the FB group have said what an amazing school this is and now I see why they say it all the time. Really glad she decided to attend there. The campus culture is very supportive and there’s a big focus on mentoring.

Made my heart happy to see some 1st gen families moving their kids in…where the entire extended family is there to see the kid off, compete with grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
