For those receiving a scholarship today, did you list a first choice college? I’m wonder if listing a first choice college for an institution that gives national merit aid makes it more likely one will receive the college sponsored scholarship instead.

Congratulations!

ETA: I think I have it somewhat figured out. Corporate award takes precedence and they do not stack.

Kid received the $2500 scholarship. He has NOT designated a first choice school yet. Some of his admitted schools have their own scholarships. He won’t receive both the corporation and school scholarship, is that correct? But he should still designate a first choice? I ask because his current number one school’s NMF scholarship is actually less than $2500 so, if he decided on that school, we would rather take the corporation’s.

Sorry, if this is a dumb question, honestly, it was a little off my radar until now.

did anyone find out they did not receive the award? or only notified if they did?

Thanks!

My son got 2500$ award as well. We still have 1st choice college as undecided.

S did list his first choice and it is a school that offers no NMS aid so this was best case scenario for us!

D24 hasn’t received anything

My son listed a first choice, and didn’t receive anything today. Plus, his first choice is a university that has a really low NMF scholarship amount. So today’s would have been better.

My D24 did list a first-choice college (which she is still waiting to hear a decision on) and did get the $2500 scholarship.

did not

My daughter received an email this afternoon notifying her of the $2500 award. She had not designated a first choice college. But she’s 99% sure she knows where she wants to go now (not a school that gives an NMF award.)

I guess the $2500 scholarship if you don’t get the corporate or college sponsor one is on a rolling basis? I’m a bit confuse, but looks to be this way. I found this on Reddit but definitely not certain if this is true.

“On a rolling basis, beginning in March and ending in June, Scholars are notified if they have been offered an award. Their high school principals are also notified.”

The NMSC $2500 is a one time payment.

One can only receive one NMS scholarship - either the NMSC $2500 or a corporate scholarship or a school sponsored NMS scholarship.

Many students do not receive a NMS scholarship from any of the three listed above. Those students remain as NMF and don’t become NMS.

Good to know.
If I understand it correctly, a school sponsored scholarship doesn’t qualify me as a NMS right? I am only a NMS if I get picked for the $2500. The corporate one doesn’t qualify one as a National merit scholar either right? Thanks.

Update: I found out that corporate sponsor and school sponsor both will also be NMS.

D24 got the $2500 scholarship!! just checked the portal; we didn’t get any email.
