S was accepted to Wheaton (no further audition/interview) with a scholarship (expecting more from music school). He didn’t pass the Rice pre-screen, and he’s okay with that. He said that between the two, he prefers Wheaton. That leaves him waiting for CIM, Eastman, and Curtis, and auditioning for FSU and Jacobs.
Mine was mostly interested in dual-degrees, but applied to a few that were either BM or BA programs(with good music departments). Ended up at Gettysburg/Sunderman which does not offer a dual degree program but requires BM students to still get a broad education. He’s being enouraged to minor in Italian, which is a new language he started there this fall. I think he’s mostly happy with his choice but wishes there were more students pursuing performance degrees, as that takes a different miindset. Of course, even at some of the BM programs he applied to, the programs were domianted by BMEducation or BMA students and the performance majors were few and far between. @bridgenail has referenced some of what is required to really excel at music.
At Gettysburg I believe as a performance major he only needs to take one lab science but for all other music degrees would have to take two.
Yes, my son is waiting on MM prescreen results too Rice results went out yesterday.
Anyone here waiting on Thornton prescreens? I read somewhere that some came out in the last few days. We did not apply there and I don’t remember reading here about anyone who did. Hoping for success if anyone here was waiting!
My son got a no for music production and he has a friend who got a yes for the same program. They found out Friday evening
Just a redirection! I know your son will find a great fit. It’s Just a waiting game at this point.
My daughter received invitation on Friday for Choral program.
thanks! he’s always known that the usc program was a total reach- they only invite 12 kids! he has interviews scheduled at Indiana and Michigan in January- so we’ll see. and you’re right- totally a waiting game! all these kids will land somewhere great!
In the thread for last year, did they say it came out in the eve? I wonder also if it would come out tomorrow since last year the 20th was a Tuesday?
Just speculating …
I’ve been similarly obsessing/speculating…I think the past three years were the 17th, then the 19th, then the 20th? something like that. It’s three different days of the week, I think (the 17th was the Friday evening one). So, basically, I’m not discerning a useful pattern. DS has EA decisions from St. Olaf and Macalester this week, too, (and I might be getting some of my Oberlin dates mixed up with Macalester!). And then our February schedule hinges completely on what happens with Oberlin. If he passes the prescreen, then we have district honor band, his brother’s sophomore recital in Nashville, and a Lawrence audition all happening the same weekend. If he doesn’t, then the Lawrence audition can be a different weekend and we only have TWO different cities to try to be in at the same time …so that’s the bright side if he doesn’t pass!
I’m really surprised that so many of the results are released in the evening! I don’t know why, as those can be automated to send, but it seems odd. I suppose that’s by design so they don’t have to field a ton of calls? Reading last year’s thread, I saw that some results went out Christmas Eve…really hope it was just the acceptances! Anyway, still waiting over here for UMich to deliver. Eastman is our reachy reach and I know that won’t be resolved until January. We also have our auditions tentatively planned and all it takes is one curve ball to throw the whole thing off! January-March is going to be a whirlwind.
The schools usually roughly coordinate audition days so they don’t conflict (or offer multiple dates) so you should be good. My son only had one outlier, which he did a video audition for, and the others all piggybacked nicely, within a day or two so we had less travel.
There are two with the two same dates you may potentially be assigned. D was granted her requested date from the first school, and hoping to be granted the opposing date with the other school to avoid conflict.
They don’t want kids leaving class to open the emails. Would rather they be at home with family support and not disrupting the school day with good or bad news.
We found the undergrad auditions to be pretty flexible… if there is a conflict just email immediately. Most of the undergrad auditions are ‘sign up’ on your preferred date and then they give you a time.
Oh WOW. That is a lot to juggle. I would be completely obsessing if I were you.
I am thankful to know that the last three days have all been different days of the week…because that means it could come today! Or tomorrow. Or the next day! Ha.
Fingers crossed for tonight!
Just checking in on my fellow MM-ers. My daughter finally got some news, which was a big relief. So far, she has auditions at 3 of the 7 schools she applied to. Three of the remaining schools release decisions in January, so she’s really waiting on just one. It’s a good place to be as we head into the holiday break. How is everyone else feeling?
Hey, congrats!! That’s a great way to slide into the holidays! We are really waiting on one more before we can breathe that sigh of relief.
Hooray! Congrats to your daughter, as well.
Has anyone heard from CIM or Michigan regarding prescreens? My son has passed his prescreen at CCM and it is waived at Jacobs because we are in state. I did know that CIM is to be released on Wednesday or before…. Anyone heard when Michigan results are due to be released?
