Class of 28 Undergrad/Class of 26 Grad: a thread to capture the journey of applications, pre screens, tours and auditions

I hope the Oberlin results aren’t too disappointing, and a huge :tada: for CU Boulder!

Bad news here too from Ob :frowning:

a no from Oberlin here, too. And a deferral from Macalester, which is really the bigger bummer. He wasn’t expecting Oberlin to come through, but his stats are very competitive for Mac and his brother just graduated from there in May. They’re need aware, and he needs a lot of FA; I wonder if that’s a bigger factor in EA since they don’t have a full picture about FA budget yet. Who knows? Anyway, at least it wasn’t a rejection!

What time do Auditon day activities usually wind up… trying to set up travel plans. Specifically Michigan

Not surprising. My daughter applied to either Choral music or double major in VP/Music Ed everywhere, except for Oberlin as they did not have Music Ed. So far she passed all other pre-screens, so hopefully when all this is behind us, she will have good options.

Just got St. Olaf EA results unexpectedly, too–and he got in! With a really nice scholarship! Phew! No word on whether he was accepted to the BM track yet or about any music scholarships, but…that’s a nice counterbalance to the rest of tonight’s news. He really likes St. Olaf and I can definitely see him there.

We withdrew S24s applications but he just got an email he made it through the Bienen prescreen, ha! Guess it is positively reinforcing that he could have made it! He was accepted ED to Williams and will attend there

Daughter just heard from UMich… passed! On to the next stage! :confetti_ball:

If I recall correctly for U Mich, once you have confirmation of passing the prescreen, you sign up for your live audition. There were a couple of date options, at least for my kid’s studio/instrument. I don’t remember if he was able to choose a morning or afternoon slot, or if audition time was assigned. Generally auditions would end in the late afternoon. I know we waited until time slots were assigned and all prescreens were passed before booking travel. There is a bit of juggling to be done.
Also be aware that there can be variability in the way different studios and grad vs undergrad schedule and conduct auditions even within the same school. We found the music school admissions staff to be very helpful for specific scheduling questions.

Well, we just heard this evening so they’re still rolling out!

Makes sense, probably different instruments different days. Good luck to you guys too! I heard jazz women have a monthly ‘girls night out’ and at least 10 women, which is a lot compared to other Jazz programs.
