Class of 28 Undergrad/Class of 26 Grad: a thread to capture the journey of applications, pre screens, tours and auditions

I have a deep voiced boy so admittedly way less competition for VP. He did all recorded or virtual auditions. He refused to give up his senior year football in fall and the school musical which runs thru beginning of March. He got into all and with merit. Most competitive ones were Jacobs/Indiana and Baldwin Wallace. Also U-Minn TC, Loyola New Orleans, ULL, Stetson, Jackonsville U, Gustavus, and Syracuse.

He’s an instrumentalist… trombone.

@operalovermom Here is a comment from a few weeks ago on the question of remote/recorded auditions. I hope this helps you.

One other comment: you can get a rejection from a less selective school if you are obviously more talented…and they assume that you are auditioning elsewhere. Schools can tell the different talent levels. So you may feel that the rejection and/or meager scholarship offer is bc you didn’t go to the school…and that may be true. The best thing to do in this case is have your D sincerely think about why she would be pleased to accept an offer at a less selective school and be sure to communicate that to them. If she simply sends in a recorded audition, she could still be accepted…unless the school feels they are simply a safety…

So…good luck. I have a feeling she’ll do fine at the selective schools due to all the pre-screen passes.

Congrats!! Nice to have an end to the waiting. Did I see before that your D is jazz? So sorry if I’m misremembering.

Yes, and it’s such a nice tight knit community, I’m sure she knows all the jazz people here
And honestly has a lot of the info, but I try to find it here as not to bug her and make her anxious…. But I’m anxious!! I need to know!

Does the prescreen => audition/fail process also apply to ED 2? I’m wondering how there’s time for that since schools need to make a decision within 6 weeks.

What is your applicant’s proposed degree/area of study? I am not familiar with ED2 for Music Performance Degree Programs. All of the ones mine applied to (both conservatory and university based) had a pre screen due date, pre screen decision and then live or recorded audition which was held on the same date/dates for all prospective students applying for that program/instrument. All decisions were in mid spring and were announced at the same time for all who completed a final audition.
Hoping others can help.

Yeah, it seems weird. But I’ve heard of it. D24 knows 2 people who got in ED1 sent in prescreen, no audition

That might have been us, it was BU. They messed up. Multiple times. Glad he’s not there- too big, too much bureaucracy.

It’s the Recorded Music program. A portfolio was submitted. ED 2 decisions are due Feb. 15, so I’m curious whether - at some point before that - the school will notify that my kid did not pass prescreen, or passed prescreen and needs to attend an interview/audition.
