Anyone else receive/not receive a Jacobs scholarship email yet? Self-imposed April 1 deadline is coming up fast and I’m starting to get a bit worried…
No FA - academic merit
That sounds like an exciting journey ahead! Count me in for updates on the thread. Looking forward to following along and sharing in the experiences of the application process, pre-screens, tours, and auditions. Let’s support each other through this adventure!
Thank you for your comments, too! I’m especially happy to hear about the local church outreach. If course they are many factors to consider, but that’s also one of our considerations!
Just got an email last night 3/28 -son music ed/ piano.
We have not heard anything yet. Always hard to know if we should be expecting any merit or not. Still waiting on two other schools as well with April 1 deadline. But hoping today is the day if there is anything coming. Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting!
Anyone else waiting for Peabody? Is it really going to be Monday…?
Still waiting here.
Anyone know if they send an email? My kid has portal fatigue at this point.
Still waiting here! I don’t remember waiting this long for Peabody for an undergrad decision, and @J2-D2 I do see an email from 4 years ago from Peabody indicating a decision is available in the portal. I also remember my D20 (MM voice) really wanting to make it work there but they offered her almost no merit.
My daughter heard about her scholarship this week but she is audio engineering, not performance. Our son is a senior at Jacobs in the Jazz department. His scholarship information arrived on April 1st. I think different departments are different dates.
Still waiting here–undergrad voice. I do know that 2 years ago a friend of ours didn’t hear about money from Jacobs until April 4th–she was also UG voice.
Over here!
This was posted in the Jacobs Accepted Student blog two days ago. But I can’t seem to find this section and maybe it doesn’t show for everyone.
“As we are starting to send out scholarship offers, my priority is getting your financial aid submitted to the IU Bursar. Once submitted to the Bursar, your music financial aid will be visible on your one.iu account as anticipated aid, then awards will be disbursed in two equal installments at the beginning of each semester.”
Waiting with you Peabody folks for CIM… I have to wonder if they are trying to hold off sending acceptances until they could include a financial award (including Federal Aid) package?
still waiting but I think my daughter is going to go to McGill
The schools you will love to hate.

Didn’t pass the pre-screen.
Really, not even a consideration. Fine. I heard people call you J-tard anyway…and no one is happy at your school. So there! Glad you passed on my amazing kid. You lose. Of course none of this is true…but it felt good to think this for awhile. -
Got accepted with no money (or so low it feels insulting to you - maybe not others)
So you want my kid to pay full freight while their roommate pays significantly less? Seriously? I should be happy to support you, big institution? Just don’t accept her. That would have been better. Of course, you do get an acceptance at a prestigious school which does say something about the talent level…and another thing about money in music…which you will continue to run into over and over. So maybe an important life lesson wrapped up in a blanket of pain. Maybe don’t take it so personally. It’s taken me some time to come to this. -
The expensive school your kid’s frenemy got accepted to…and is attending with no merit.
OK, I don’t want to hear about their experience. I’m not emotionally strong enough right now to know that they are in the heart of all the activity with amazing people doing amazing events every night on their way to fame and fortune…and of course they are social media savvy so you know your kid is looking at it every day. Heavy sigh. I need to grow up…and get a life!
I may be over sharing and showing how petty I can be…but in stress…I think it’s OK to be angry, frustrated, vulnerable and a bit sad.
The important thing is: it passes. And, my D handled it MUCH better than me. She got to go to UG and grad school, made great friends…and it all worked out. She now gets cast alongside people from prestigious schools down to no name schools.
Go where your kid will GROW and do try to limit debt. If your kid is committed and has a teacher that is talented they will grow…and have some money for summer programs. My D’s first summer program had a lot of kids from Curtis and MSM. So, it’s never done…if you keep trying.
haha, I love this! I definitely have felt some of these things. I think it’s what we’ve all grown accustomed to in the music world; the bottom line is that it’s subjective. Acceptance and/or scholarships is just like that first little festival they played in where adjudicator decisions were mystifying. It all works out in the end (at least it has for us so far!).
Has anyone heard from Juilliard…?
It’s a great school… we live in Canada and know many, many students and teachers there Fun city too!
