I ended up having my son call them up yesterday and they waived it. I had to resubmit our forms a few days ago because only the first page apparently saved in the scan lol I’ll have him check the portal this afternoon to make sure everything shows green checkmarks now.
My son was looking at his Juilliard portal and noticed that the dropdown to request a teacher disappeared… but the dropdown for audition rep is still available. Maybe it means nothing but he is stressing ![]()
My kid got notified today they passed the prescreen for CMU (composition). Yay
Is anyone familiar with what the audition day typically looks like at Peabody, specifically for Jazz? I’m curious if it would be ok to fly home the same night of my son’s audition. Trying to minimize the amount of day’s he needs to miss for school (which is extremely hard)
Daughter just heard from Juilliard -yes!
That’s a no for us from Juilliard. Damn. That’s disappointing
Congrats to those with better news!
We drove around but flew to northern midwest and there were no west coast schools.
I was very grateful this summer when my son did a festival in Europe and was able to use a cello from a local cellist in exchange for a donation to a charity. Way better than a plane ticket and also lower stress!
We are flying home the same day as the audition. According to the audition week newsletter, there is just an admission q&a from noon to 1 on the day we selected. And ongoing tours.
@RangerDanger9 at Juilliard a rejection may just mean there was one opening!
Again so helpful to post the no’s as well as the yeses!
A No from Curtis
But passes from: IU, BU, NU, and Juilliard and still waiting for Colburn for my S(Double Bass.
Three years old experience. I checked my record. The audition was on a Sunday morning . We flew home that evening. Peabody audition was quite well organized. While waiting I saw kids with all sorts of instruments. There were group campus tours (Peabody and Homewood) but we didn’t participate.
Unexpected yes from Curtis. Now we have the good problem of how to plan travel for 6 auditions. After all of this, my kid is having his wisdom teeth out on the first day of spring break — the timing as a brass player is tough. I was a little bummed it needed to be during spring break, but maybe after audition travel we will feel like staying home anyway!
What is the down time from wisdom teeth for a brass player? (Asking as a trombone mom, looking to add this in the future schedule in a couple years.)
They have told us he’s got to lay off for 7-10 days for sure. It’s like trying to thread a needle between auditions and end-of-year concerts and a summer tour. (But this is new territory. If any brass parents have experience with wisdom tooth surgery recovery, I’d also love to know more.)
I’m a bassoonist and my wisdom teeth extraction was decades ago so likely the oral surgery equipment and techniques are better. But be sure the oral surgeon knows your kid is a musician and to be very careful not to over stretch the jaw ligaments. I ended up with some TMJ issues, but possibly because I tried to play too much and too soon.
I feel like a lot of the recovery guidelines focus on the sockets healing, but an issue with the jaw can be much more serious for wind /brass players.
I know my oboe player plans to ask other professional woodwind players for referrals for dental work and oral surgery. He has not yet needed to have his wisdom teeth out.
I appreciate this constructive advice. Thank you!
My older flutist was unable to play for multiple weeks, I want to say a month. The younger one has put off getting his wisdom teeth out because of this. He had a rough time as a young kid with dental work and braces and being able to play, there is concern about damage to nerves, etc. I agree with oboemom to make sure that you use someone who has worked with musicians and make sure the surgery is absolutely needed.
This makes me so nervous. We are in a large metro area and this person comes highly recommended, but we are just not going to know until we’re in it.
Anyway, sorry to have gotten us off topic!
I’m sure he will be fine. And it is good practice for a young musician to deal with the speed bumps that come along in life. Cold sores, dental issues, sore throats and congestion.
At least this one can be a scheduled break so he can fully recover. And he will deserve some time off (and lots of ice cream) after all of those auditions. ![]()
Hey Friends! Temple EA was supposed to come out by January 10. So I had my daughter email Boyer’s admissions this morning to check her status. They emailed back and said she has been admitted and the Temple portal will be updated!
