Class Rank, GPA, SAT, Transcript, Courseload analyzed

Hey CC!

After my CC experience, the general consensus is this:

There are other stuff on your application that can always help you.

Case Nr.1:
Marshall Mathers has a bad class rank, but good GPA.
adcom will understand: if you come from a very competitive, well-known private school. (ex. Exeter, Andover) I dont think they even do class rank but still

Case Nr.2:
Curtis Jackson has good SAT (2300+) but bad GPA, due to transcript.
adcom will understand: School has grade deflation. That’s when standardized tests can help Curtis.

Case Nr.3:
Andre Young has bad SAT (2200-2300) but good class rank, and good GPA. adcom will understand: Andre is not a good test taker.

Case Nr.4:
Jayceon Terrell Taylor has bad transcript, good rank. adcom will understand: school has grade deflation. This is the time when APs and IB scores can help Jayceon.

Case Nr.5:
Lady Gaga has good GPA, good transcript, good SAT(2350+), very strong courseload (12+APs.) adcom will understand: Gaga is a good student, in every aspect. also good rank.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

But my conclusion is this:
If you are applying, take pride in yourself.
And remember that applying to colleges, especially Ivies, is a crapshoot.
Please bear in mind: you are all truly amazing and wonderful people :)

:)
happy May 11th
Best of Luck to all of You!
LBJ

ps wish me luck too, lol :)

I have a couple of comments about each of the case scenarios:

Case 1: The school might have grade inflation.

Case 2: The student may just be lazy, and not have applied himself in his academic work.

Case 3: You don’t seriously consider a 2200-2300 a “bad” SAT score, do you? Give me a break.

Case 4: The school as a whole may not be very competitive or churn out graduates to top schools.

Case 5: Don’t you mean Stefani Germanotta ;)?

^ My point with each of the above is that there are countless ways to interpret the same data set, and it’s REALLY REALLY REALLY hard to establish general patterns and make generalized statements about college admissions only by looking at hard factors.

Thanks fmhcbc!

Case 1: you are absolutely right.
Case 2: Courseload backs it up.
Case 3: I didn’t, until I visited CC.
Case 4: SAT scores back it up. Also School Ranking Profile.
Case 5: YES!!! OMG Lady Gaga is so talented!

Yep, I absolutely agree with you.
Which is why:
ECs! The true potential of you, that will change the world some day!

For the most part, anyone who is making a general post and claims that a 2200 SAT score is bad loses most of their credibility.

For some people, that may be a bad score (perhaps they are naturally great at standardized tests or studied extremely hard for the SATs), but for 98% of the nation, its fantastic.

That is NOT what I mean.
I personally find 2200 a GREAT score

I think it’s funny how a 2200 is considered bad. It’s still the tippy-top percentile. I agree with lebron.
