Well, I have a question that I’ve seen discussed numerous times here.

Basically, my GPA is terrible … (updated reports just came in the mail yesterday so my previous stats are now different if you’ve seen any of my other posts )

My gpa is a 3.6 w 3.4 uw … however on the flip side… my class rank has me in the top 10 % still out of about 415 … will a high class rank balance a weaker GPA, or at least put it into context?

If you are at a very competitive school or have a hard grading scale, colleges will look past the lower GPA if you have a high rank. GPA only matters when its put into context.

However, even if you have a high rank, if your school is very uncompetitive or your schedule is weak, it will show that you are simply amongst an uncompetitive group.

^but make note that the latter statement posed by dd1993

does mean that even if you do go to a uncompetitive high school and have a high rank, it will still show YOU are competitive provided that your schedule is not weak, even if you are amongst an uncompetitive group.
