Can you give me any examples of schools in the US, including any school related to the US military, that absolutely, positively require class rank? Thanks.
Texas public universities use class rank instead of GPA, and will calculate an assumed class rank for applicants whose high schools do not provide one.
Absolutely, positively? AFAIK, none. Considering that over half of US high schools do not give a cardinal/ordinal rank, no college is going to exclude half the potential applicant base. That said, most AOs will be able to guesstimate.
“most AOs will be able to guesstimate.” how do AOs do that? When the difference between Val and Sal could be in the third decimal point these days. DS’ school does not rank, I’d like to know how to guesstimate
They report deciles.
School profiles often include GPA range by decile. I should have been clearer and said that they will guesstimate a more narrow band than a decile, but they will likely not be guessing #2 vs #3, nor will it really matter. #1 will be obvious by having the highest GPA in the top decile.
Many hs report nothing, no hint of rank.
Some adcoms can take the range of gpa in the School Report and figure where a kid stands, more or less. But…wait for it…not all hs report this, either.
What’d behind this question, OP?
Nor will it really matter. No college cares about the difference between 2 and 3.
