Class rank?

Hello all,

As an international applicant, I feel uneasy with some aspects of the American college application and I kindly ask for your help.

I have checked that in recommendation letters, universities usually ask for your class rank.

In my school, I was the first of my classroom, which comprised 43 students, and the first among other 400 senior students.

In this case, should the form be filled with 1/43 or 1/400?

Thank you for your attention so far.

Sincerely,
Sandro Rodrigues

Write 1/400 if you were first among the entire class of 400 students… it would look better.

Not only would it look better, but it would also better represent what the colleges are asking.

When they ask for class rank, they are referring to your graduating class–that is, all students graduating with you.

1/400 is what they are looking for.
