Class transferred even though I didn't expect it to

Hello everyone. I just transferred from Saddleback College to California State University Dominguez Hills. I took Hist 17 at Saddleback College and that course alone fulfilled the US History requirement at my new school but when I looked at assist.org it said I needed both Hist 16 and Hist 17 to fulfill the History requirement at CSUDH. Anyone know why this is? This is a pleasant surprise to me with no explanation given.

You should ask the registrar at DH and find out. Here’s the thing: CSUDH is going to have you meet their requirements for a Bachelor’s degree. Saddleback is a community college and they don’t have any jurisdiction on diploma course requirements at Dominguez Hills for the Bachelor’s.

If the college changes and adds a requirement, then you adapt and take the extra course.

Whenever a law changed, in California, in my major (treating patients), which required state licensure, if a requirement was added by the college, the professors would explain the change and we would take the additional course. You didn’t argue, you just added the course later. It rarely happened. We just wanted to complete our degrees as quickly and as efficiently as possible.

You take courses according to the course catalog requirements for each major. The course catalog has a checklist of courses that will meet the diploma requirements. So, if you enter in Spring of 2025, your requirements for a diploma will be based on the Catalog for Spring 2025. Ask the registrar.

Which history requirement are you referring to?

Saddleback HIST 16 + HIST 17 = CSUDH HIS 101 according to Welcome to ASSIST .

It is possible that you may be referring to the CSU US history requirement listed at https://catalog.csudh.edu/general-information/baccalaureate-degrees-undergraduate-studies/university-graduation-requirements/university-graduation-requirements.pdf . For this requirement, CSUDH students need to take HIS 101. However, it looks like Saddleback HIST 16, 17, or 22 will satisfy that requirement for students transferring to CSU, according to https://www.saddleback.edu/sites/default/files/2024-08/IGETC_24-25_Final.pdf .

You should contact CSUDH directly to ensure that you have this requirement fulfilled through Saddleback HIST 17.
