I read that it is a time for preparation for Finals and also a time to catch up on assignments, but do professors hold classes during “Reading Period”?

In Weinberg, no, they can’t. You may have tests of certain types (language conversation tests) but no Weinberg classes. The other schools still have class.

Students in other schools except WCAS must report to classes during Reading Week.

Reading Week generally applies to WCAS students.

Why does only WCAS have it?

[Reading Period, Rules and Policies, Undergraduate Students, WCAS, Northwestern University](http://www.wcas.northwestern.edu/advising/rules/readingweek.html)

WCAS hold “unofficial” classes, meaning YES classes during reading week.

I had math classes throughout reading week for both fall and winter quarter. It was irritating.

Yes, eternitygoddess - I saw one of last years’ class schedules for math and there were classes during reading week. So I guess it really depends on the professor.

i haven’t had classes during reading week…mostly review sessions.
We have reading week because when we get back from breaks we don’t kid around we get straight to work…sucks. I kinda would rather not have reading weeks because we’d get out three weeks earlier lol

90% of Weinberg classes dont meet during reading week.

Typically, the largest reason for meeting during reading week is when a holiday or other rando conflicts prevent a class from meeting (a professor has to go to a conference or somethin) and its used as a make up. Sometimes a jerky professor will meet, but you will not have classes very often.

Pretty much, if they hold class, report it to the Dean if you feel like it. In a lot of cases, they can’t hold mandatory classes. They also can’t technically make papers due during reading week (though there are ways around it, and it’s actually more convenient if they do).
