I went on a campus tour recently and we only walked through the lobby of the Cathedral of Learning. The lobby had a real old, nostalgic design and I was wondering, are the class rooms more modern? Also are many classes held in this building? Thanks.

No, the classrooms aren’t more modern (though the furniture only seems like it has been around since the building was erected in 1926), and yes, classes are held in the building (I don’t know what qualifies as “many.”) There are also offices in the building.

The rooms on the first floor are the Nationality Rooms, some quite ornate, and are meant to celebrate various cultures. The classrooms in the basement and upper floors are more like you would expect a classroom to be with regular chairs, chalkboards, etc. (Still in the cool architecture of the Cathedral, though).

There are a decent number of classes held here. Almost all of them humanities/social sciences ones. The rooms aren’t modern, but they are not decrepit if you were thinking so…I am just glad I have only one class in that building.
