So I was trying to cook Bagel Bites on a plastic plate, and they burned themselves and the plate horribly. Now my microwave smells awful. How do I get rid of the smell?
I’ve tried: boiling vinegar, boiling water with a ton of lemonade powder and cinnamon, and scrubbing it down with 409, Clorox wipes, and vinegar on a sponge. No avail…

PS- You can cook these without the cooking tray on ceramic plates (which I do at home all the time). Just don’t do them on plastic…so I’ve learned.

Well, at least you were trying to do what microwaves are indended for. My husband “cooked” an AOL spam CD in our home microwave, and it stunk really badly for a week or so, then the smell went away. I suspect yours will eventually disappear, too. Keeping an odor absorber (like an activated carbon cartridge) in the microwave might do the trick. Just do not forget to remove it before you do any cooking.

[Does anyone know how to get the burnt smell out of a microwave? - Yahoo! Answers](http://■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/question/index?qid=20080218105849AASO4GQ)

Just make sure the coal is not soaked in any lighter fluid. AND TAKE IT OUT WHEN YOU COOK!!! Or you can try charcoal-based absorbers sold in cat litter supply isles at your local pet store.

Three tricks I’ve learned to remove odors from almost anything:

Dried coffee grounds will absorb odors

Newspapers. In this case, stuff the microwave with newspapers. Especially good for the musty smell in books.

Vodka. Put a shot of vodka in the microwave. Don’t heat, just let it sit. Vodka can be spritzed on clothing and air dried to remove musty odors.

Shoebox-How was your year at UVA?? Miss you on the VT threads.
Anyway, we have constant microwave popcorn issues in our house and I have found that putting a mocrowave safe glass bowl/cup (Pyrex) with teaspoon of vanilla in for several minutes. Bring to a boil and just let it sit in there. After 5-10 minutes open door and just let things steam away. Repeat as often as needed. Hope it helps.
