Can anyone let me know how the housing process works? I’m 99% committed, and see on the portal that “housing applications are now open” is this to request a roommate, or to request a certain dorm to live in? I thought it was based off date applied, not when you commit.
It will be later, based on application date. You will chose the room.
Not sure all have been released as my daughter is in Honors College, 3.9 UW, 33 ACT and we just checked her portal minutes ago and she hasn’t received anything in portal either. Spoke to someone at Clemson on Friday of last week and they said to expect an update this Friday or next Friday.
If it said she will be receiving merit in her acceptance letter then it will definitely come.
It didn’t say it in either acceptance letter (regular or honors) but when I called they told me she would but merit amount was up to financial aid office. No expectation for aid outside of merit but I was told merit amount determined by aid office. That said, I am sure admissions has a big say in both who gets merit and who is offered what amount from the pool of funds.
If merit wasn’t offered in the acceptance letter it is unlikely that any will be offered. It does happen, but it is rare. They usually stick to the offer in the original acceptance letter.
It’s almost like there is no formula for it. We are OOS. 4.0UW/5.1W - 6 out of 515 and top 1.5% in class rank. She got 5K/year. I’m not in love with the total cost for Clemson. She’s in OOS at UFlorida, with the same amount of merit. It makes UF much cheaper. Unfortunately for the pocketbook, I think she really wants to go to Clemson…
I hear you but it wouldn’t make sense since original offer letters are not necessarily tied to FAFSA since it is merit, and other OOS admits are receiving varying levels with stats similar or below her 3.9 UW and 33 ACT. We’ll know soon enough.
Dealing with same while waiting on Clemson merit as daughter is also accepted OOS at UF and price difference is rather large.
That’s crazy! These comments/results are so unbalanced and odd.
I suggest UF. IMO, stronger school all around (social scene and cost). Plus it’s bigger so better networking capabilities after graduation.
On a sidenote, if your daughter wants to rush Clemson’s Greek life is not strong (only 1 Greek house, most frats and sororities live in specified dorms on campus). The town has only 2-3 bars (something to think about when she’s older), it’s difficult to get to by air, and not memorable tailgates. All things you don’t really see on a tour or on the school’s websites. But like I said, just my opinion. I can’t speak to the specific majors, so if all the social stuff is insignificant then my two cents means nothing. LOL.
Regarding your “sidenote,” Clemson’s Greek life is very strong in a positive way. They have an excellent relationship with the university and the students are always very strong academically and leaders on campus. There are more than 2-3 bars too, by the way.
It’s not my opinion. There are Youtube sites that actually rate and review all of them (every college). But again, it’s THEIR opinion so who knows! I don’t really have a dog in this fight…just passing on information. But my husband’s a pilot so the air travel thing is legit.
Yeah, those websites aren’t accurate for any college campus.
The Boys of 98 though…the kids take them pretty seriously. Bunch of Canadians who come down and spend a week on the campus. They’ve been pretty accurate with their social rankings TBH. It’s hilarious too.
FYI, per the admissions office on the phone, there is more merit to be released, possibly beyond what has already been included in the recent merit package.
I live here; DH and I both travel regularly and never have an issue. We fly out of GSP to Philly and BWI regularly, but there are plenty of non-stop flights to other regions as well. During breaks there are free shuttles to both GSP and Charlotte.
Ouch that hurt Clemson isn’t a thriving metropolis I’ll give you that, but we do have more 2-3; I feel like I should correct this since several are owned by friends of our’s; it’s more like 10 plus some others that a more restaurant/bar scene spots like CSP or Walk Ons.
Oh Thank the Lord! Maybe we will get lucky the next round then!
Also, did they give any indication on when we might see more going out?
Another question for those that did get merit- Did everyones acceptance letters say they would be getting merit or where some of you surprised by merit? Ours did not mention any but Im hoping that we may still get some.
