These are my top two schools and I have a slight leaning towards wake but not by much. Which one of these schools would provide me with the best overall experience and why?

I’m leaning towards marrying Bob or Rick. I’m leaning towards Bob, but not by much. Which would be a better husband for me?

???

We need more info about you…

What is your major?

What are your stats?

Are you instate for Clemson so is that your financial safety?

What else do you want in a school outside of academics?

Do you know if WF is affordable?

How much will your parents pay?

^^^lol…

haha love that comment!

but if you have any questions about Clemson let me know! I’m a junior there majoring in civil engineering. I’ll comment more once you give us some more info on what you are looking for in a university.

Wake Forest is far superior. Better sports, better students, better faculty and better campus.

^Depends on what you want. Clemson is superior in engineering.

Wake is far better overall, unless you want a very specific job in engineering.

I was thinking about english, and wake may be affordable depending on financial aid/scholarships - any recommendations welcome. I am just a little worried about the grade deflation

4.3 GPA

Wofford Scholar
Palmetto Boys State
Yearbook Editor
Multiple sports
Student Council and NHS Officer
Interact Club

My thought was that Wake is better academically but Clemson has the more manageable workload

cgaines, I would go with Wake Forest personally. Liberal arts majors are not the majors to go to Clemson for when you have other choices like Wake Forest. If you want an in-state option for english, I would look at the College of Charleston.

Unless you really raise your SAT, I doubt Wake will accept that score. is that your M+CR? you got like a 520 and a 530? That would be very low for Wake.

Since you want English, why aren’t you looking at South Carolina? That’s your public with the more “humanities/liberal arts” leaning. It also is good with aid for instate kids who qualify.

Wake middle quartiles

SAT Critical Reading: 600 - 690
SAT Math: 620 - 710

Even if you raised your SAT to a 1220, you’d have a hard time getting accepted. Typically, students who are accepted in that bottom quartile are special admits…like athletes, etc.

Wake Forest is SAT optional though. I think this makes it a good choice for the OP.

Clemson is a good school but Wake is clearly the stronger choice academically. I will warn you though that it’s been called “Work Forest” (not the cleverest name). The classes are rigorous and its very hard to make As, unlike most other elite schools. Honestly, I think their grade deflation may even hurt recent grads when applying for jobs. Though its argued that it helps retain value for the average grad though.

I chose a top public over a top private institution because not only was it a better deal financially but it was easier for me to stand out and make really good grades compared with my classmates. I got into every PhD I applied to and I believe it was because I appeared to stand out.

My suggestion is to apply to both (and many more - CofC, USouth Carolina etc.) and then really think about what you want out of your college experience. You could be successful at either one.
