Looks like there hasnt been much convo on here in awhile. Daughter was just accepted EA for Fall 2024 and she plans to rush. Looking for all the info you can give as my older child went to a smaller school and did not rush or even care to meet new friends even.
Also, how do I even know which chapters she should be trying to get into? Is there a ranking system?
That is not how rush works. All who sign up go to all of the houses on the first day (or sometimes it takes two days). The houses issue invitations to those they want to invite back for a second round and the girls going through rush accept the invitations they want. They really don’t target certain houses and ignore the others.
Most houses don’t give a preference to legacies any more, so all are just trying to meet people, decide what they like about a house or don’t like - and it can be anything from colors to philanthropy to meal schedules - and go from there.
I’d have your daughter start with a very open mind, accept as many invitations as allowed (even if she is SURE she doesn’t like a house) and just go with the process. She’ll have a group leader who will answer any questions she has during rush week.
Calling @Mjkacmom who has a current student
And I agree with @twoinanddone … be open minded to the process.
Lol I’m here! My daughter rushed freshman year, it’s really about finding fit, and they’re pretty large (my daughter would meet sorority sisters she never met before at parties or in classes). It didn’t appear cut throat at all, just time consuming. I joined a sorority at my northeast college and pledging was different, hazing used to be a thing. My daughter is currently living with 2 sorority sisters but a lot of her close friends are in different sororities, same with her sister, which is even better for meeting new friends. My daughter will sometimes take a friend as a date to functions instead of a guy, once her bf from home flew in to join her.
Check out the Clemson Panhellenic website for more info. Clemson does their first round via video now so in-person Rush doesn’t occur until the second round. I highly suggest signing up for the Zoom program from “What’s the Rush” specifically for Clemson Rush - it’s super helpful and made my daughter feel a lot more comfortable with the process! Clemson Rush is highly competitive and can be a tough process.
My daughter is a junior and is getting her 3rd pair of white cowboy boots this Christmas.
Good tip
@Mjkacmom my daughter just got accepted for Fall 2024 and asked for a pair of white cowboy boots. So exciting! I also heard lululemon skirts are a staple. True?
Definitely the boots, nit sure of the lululemon (only because I’m not spending g that much) but yes to miniskirts.
Yes to the white boots not sure of the white lulu skirts my daughter hasnt asked for those although she does wear tons of lulu. She does wear the white golden hinge and halara pleated skirts if thats what you mean?
Shouldn’t she be the one deciding this?
She definitely will. I guess its just me being more curious than anything. Making sure that I know the kind of outfits and things to go ahead and purchase and feeling like she can go into the process feeling confident. Thats all! At the end of the day she will be the one making the friends and finding her fit.
Understandable. TikTok will probably tell her more than she needs to know what the girls at Clemson are wearing and the essentials they will need for rush- obviously a handheld fan, a towel to dry their face when they’re sweaty, deodorant, mints, Make up for touchups, and a nice bag to carry all of this -a tote will do just fine.
This is a random question- I was going ahead and putting things on the calendar for the summer ect. And then trying to figure out when fall semester will start. I couldnt find 2024 dates but found 2023 and I realize that PNMs have move in one day earlier. But also that Bid Day is like the first or second day of school. So this might be stupid to ask but how do they go to bid day and classes?
Also, I assume that rush week is slam full? Or will they have time to go to some of the welcome week events as well?
Im sure that it is different for each university Ive seen how intense Bama’s is just from TikTok stuff that goes through my feed. Are all schools this intense where they are all day long events for a week straight?
That’s interesting. Most schools have their b-day on the weekend or during the week or at the end of the week prior to school starting. Bud day also could be at 5 PM since it’s summertime and will still be light outside.
My daughter is out, but I know she had to go back to school early this fall for recruitment, many many had to couch surf in the sorority housing because apartments weren’t ready for move in. She pledged freshman year in 2021 and things were different due to Covid so I’m not even sure what was normal or not, I will ask her. Bid day is a morning thing, I believe. ETA, bid day was august 24th in 2022 (did a search on the parent page).
Ok just asked my daughter, freshmen move in before school starts for orientation, and that’s when sorority rush is, before classes even start. They bang it out daily.
Makes sense.
My daughter rushed in fall of 23. All of Rush is done before classes begin but there is not really any time to do anything with Welcome Week. The schedule is pretty exhausting depending on how many parties they have. The 1st round is done via video so 2nd round they could have to attend up to 10 parties over two days depending on how many invites they get. The times of the parties run from 10 am - 10 pm which makes it difficult to do anything else.
