I think some of these “requirements” have some flexibility. We reached out to Clemson because they list PE as a required class. In our school district, kids can get a waiver from PE if they play at least two seasons of a varsity sport. So my son had never taken PE, and this waiver is not reflected on his transcript. We asked Clemson if his application would not be considered if he didn’t take PE, and they said he would be fine as it was a “recommendation” not a “requirement.” I agree it’s confusing because the Common Data Set lists it as a requirement.
Son just got his honors portal update for those waiting.
Thank you for that update. My daughter just checked and did not get in, but appreciate knowing so she can move on.
Daughter deferred for the honors program. At least she still has a chance.
@KeystoneState64 my daughter did not and will not complete her foreign language “suggestion”. She sent a note as to why to have uploaded to her file at Clemson and was accepted EA. So suggestions they are.
My OOS was accepted Honors. That came out early I think. So, maybe the scholarship info will come out early as well? I think I read that they would be announced by March 1st.
Definitely still has a shot, my son won’t be accepting, he’ll decline soon.
OOS D was accepted to Honors. Does this mean there is still an outside chance for National Scholars? I know the likelihood is slim, but still having a shot would be great. I don’t know if those notifications (for NSP) went out yet and am wondering if anyone has heard. School website says January is when kids will be notified, but I’m wondering if anyone else has already heard.
I think approx 65k applications by early October. I think with the record number of applications they didn’t get around to reviewing all applications. Very unfortunate situation for
Many waiting.
My daughter was accepted to Clemson. We live in Va and she was also accepted to VT ( she was handed an in person acceptance in Oct ) MATTER of fact we have been on Clemson the last 2 days for an admitted student tour. WE LOVE CLEMSON …EVERYONE is so kind, helpful and polite and overall welcoming ! She is having a little heartburn over the decision so as we speak we drove to VT for one last look. It’s cold , sterile and looks like Hogwarts. Lol
Compared to Clemson it looks like a penitentiary . I’m from VA and since
Th 1980s have visited VT hundred of times and never realized how cold feeling it was.
As soon as we got here she said "i know 100% now that Clemson is my school. She is a criminal justice major. Your daughter will LOVE Clemson , the girls we met were from all over the country. They were friendly and gave is tours of their dorms too. (Shhh) VT is not for everyone. It’s very cold and windy too…if she is an engineer VT is more prestigious. The dorms here are so OLD, no AC and desperately need remodeling. They are in the process of tearing down one but it’s shocking how run down VT is.
so I had heard that the dorms at Clemson were horrid. Any truth in that? What are the dorms like and are some much better than others?
Some newer dorms on campus - Douthitt, Cribb, Mickel, and some really old ones - shoeboxes and the highrises. The highrises are being renovated over the next 3 years
Most kids end up in the older dorms unless they (or their roommate) applied to Clemson within the first days of the app portal being open.
My daughter was in Douthit, she joined the CUBS llc for business, she had a last mi Ute application and definitely would’ve been in the shoeboxes, but we never even met anyone who applied to Clemson so she wanted the business llc. Dorm was amazing (speaking as a mom who has had kids in 7 different dorms), however I do believe the crappier the dorm, the happier the students (public universities in the northeast have pretty bad freshman dorms).
It’s definitely a “to each their own” deal with college campuses. I love VT’s campus. My wife went to veterinary school at VT, and I got a grad degree and worked in the athletic department there. I don’t think it’s run down, but it definitely has that castle like Hogwarts vibe. A few publications (Niche) have VT ranked as one of the prettiest campuses. You are right though, it is cold and windy, lol.
After seeing all the university campuses, my Daughter’s favorites were Clemson, VT, and UNC. I grew up in VA and NC, so that’s why my daughter is into all these schools- lots of exposure to them. Honestly feel my D24 will choose between Clemson and UNC (if she gets in). She really liked the vibe at Clemson, though. In at UGA as well, but isn’t a fan of how spread out the campus seems to be.
Notifications to NSP finalists were sent out a couple of weeks ago! All finalists were notified at the same time.
I have edit major button (two of them – one for primary major and one for secondary). Does everyone deferred have these two buttons?
We have them too.
We have these 2 buttons too. They are always there, no?
So funny to see everyone’s views and opinions. We are also from VA and just visited Clemson this past weekend. We all disliked the campus. Architecture was disjointed and full of ugly orange brick buildings from the 1960s. Not a ton of trees and felt kind of small for a school of its size. Business building was nice, but nothing special. Clemson “downtown” was kind of depressing. Really just one main street. Food was just meh at the restaurants we tried. We all thought VT was a much prettier campus in comparison and were all a bit baffled by why everyone loves the Clemson campus so much. I will say that the Clemson kids were super nice. We then visited Auburn down the road. Wow. What a gorgeous campus and great town. I was not expecting such a beautiful, organized and well kept campus. Love that all the big athletic stadiums are right next to each other in the middle of campus and the dorms seemed well kept. The school offers a dining floor geared to kids with allergies, which my kiddo loved. Business building is the nicest building I have seen on any campus so far. Auburn is now definitely in consideration, but may be a bit too far. I am seriously ready to sign up. Lol.
Anybody know when kids who were deferred find out if they do indeed get accepted? Visiting University of South Carolina and want to do both at the same time if possible.
