Clep at USC

I have read the catalog and I understand that it says USC does not accept CLEP exams. However I was wondering if they “accept” them when they are within an AS or a BA? If I get an associates I have read that schools are more likely to accept CLEP. Or if I get a BA how would they view this. Who could I contact for more information?

USC does not accept clep credit towards the completion of a degree. They only credit by examination they accept would be AP and IB. See: [Undergraduate Education: Admission | USC Catalogue](http://www.usc.edu/dept/publications/catalogue/undergraduate/)

When you transfer, they would only accept credit for transfer from normally completed college courses.

Then if the degree is completed then it should be fine right?

When you transfer somewhere, it doesn’t matter so much that the degree is completed unless you’re in a state where there is a transfer agreement between a community college and a state college/university where if you complete the associate degree with a specific gpa then you are automatically admitted to that major at the 4 year school. USC doesn’t have a transfer agreement plan like this however they are traditionally quite friendly to transfer students with admissions.

They look directly at each class you have completed and what it would transfer over as, either taking care of GE categories 1,2,3, and 5, the math, writing, or other pre-major prerequisites. In my case I transferred from a CC and completing an associate in business made no difference, what mattered were me completing all of the transfer prereq classes e.g. Calc I, writing, micro/macro econ, financial/managerial accounting. I also took classes at my CC knowing they would qualify for GE 1,2,3,5 as well as the diversity course requirement. Everything else transferred over as electives.

So you should look at the transfer admissions page and see what the transfer prereqs are for the major you are interested in. Then figure out what classes at your cc you can take to knock all of those out. If you need help you can talk to the transfer admissions rep for your state/region and they can show you historical information showing what classes would transfer over as from your school so you know what you can take.

If you currently go to a California CC then you can probably just go speak to your own academic advisor and they can show you what to take to knock out as many degree requirements as possible before transferring here. Since USC is increasingly difficult to get into these days it might be good to develop a list of several other schools as well to target. The way I planned it out I took all the classes I’d need to successfully transfer into USC as well as two other top universities (and some safeties) so I’d have options.

I managed to find the articulation history database I used when planning my schedule out. I looked up my own out of state CC and viewed past semesters of transfer students and what classes transferred over as what. This is primarily important for knocking out those four GE classes so you don’t have to take them here: Error;
