I have given up on buying these relatives “stuff”–they don’t need it. H and I have decided to do a gift like theater tickets, restaurant gift certificate, great spa experience, etc. Anyone living in the Cleveland area–I’m looking for suggestions.

Restaurants (new or old) that would be fun? Concerts? Symphony? We got them tickets for a Cavs game last year, so don’t want to do that again. Upscale spas? Membership for a museum or zoo? Botanic Garden?

I’m from Cleveland! Here are some things I’d suggest:

A gift card to one of Michael Simon’s restaurants (same one from the Food Network), he has three:
-Lola - is the most expensive and upscale of the lot, although a Cleveland must as it’s kind of infamous. It should be on every Clevelander’s bucketlist if they haven’t already. Fantastic and unique food to please everyone.
-Lolita- Lola’s slightly less formal, less expensive little sister.
-B-Spot (which has several locations)- Has more unique, gourmet bar/pub food which is actually pretty cheap and has awesome, self-proclaimed “bad-as$” milkshakes in unique flavors like bacon apple pie.

L’Albatros - French Bistro in a really cute former carriage house right near Case Western which is right next to all the museums and Severance Hall (the opera house where the Cleveland Orchestra plays) so it might be nice to get a gift card there so they could do dinner after going to the art museum (which is free) or catching an orchestra show. It’s a really nice upscale, modern restaurant with lots of character but not as expensive as Lola.

Speaking of which, I would look into the shows at Severance Hall for either a holiday orchestra concert or look into the boxoffice at the Cleveland Playhouse (also right in the area) if they are into that sort of thing as another option.

If you thought they would use it a gift certificate to Ticketmaster is nice. They could pick out what event they want to go to. But whenever I’ve given ticketmaster, they went unused because no one could or would decide what event they wanted to attend.

No cavs game again, they stink lol!

I like the Michael Simon idea, I wonder if you can get a GC that covers all 3 restaurants.

A membership to the Zoo, Botanical Gardens or Holden Arboretum is something they can use all year long; yes, a visit yo the zoo on a snowy day is terrific because the shuttle through the park is heated, the lodge up by the wolves has a roaring fire and the Rainforest provides a dose of the tropics! Other events, such as shows at Playhouse Square sometimes offer discounts to Zoo members too. Our memberships have paid for themselves many times over (the Zoo membership was a gift, too!).

We are planning to be in Cleveland this weekend.
We are looking to visit Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. D. said it is cool place. I do not know if anybody is interested and if tickets could be bought without specific date. they are expensive - $22. if we have time we will visit more museums close by. i understand that place is not too far from Case.
D. has been to Botanical Gardens during fairs. I imagine that it does not look that great now, but again membership is a good thing if they are going to visit several times / year.
