Clich

What are the ideas’ that everyoneee uses

would these be it?

-penn is a great city
-upenn will let me meet intelligent people from around the nation
-upenn will give me a unique experience
-upenn has a good social life And a good school
etc…

i actually didnt use any of the ones above…but still thought it was quasi-clich

You can use those 4 things to describe half the ivies. That’s not good.

First off - “Penn,” as you said, isn’t a city - Philly is the city you would refer to in your essay.

Anyway… In your why Penn essay, you should try to use more specifics when you are talking about Penn - those are all generalizations that you/they used. If that was the bulk of your essay, it would not be considered a great one by the admissions officers. They want to see some effort put into these essays, and some evidence that you may have even researched the school in writing the essay.

For my essay, I talked about specific courses that I may want to take, professors I would love to meet, and programs that Penn offers that I would be interested in. Any specifics at all would greatly improve the quality of that essay.

i too did a lot of research. i agree with a-bomb: penn IS a great school, and does have many opportunities, etc but be specific about what opportunities YOU want to take, what programs YOU are interested in, and how they fit you best…you shouldn’t be able to do find/replace penn and insert any other school in

the issue is how to fit everything you want to say about the school into one page?

hmmm…i wonder how much weight the “Why Penn” essay will have on admissions

They love their school and want to hear what YOU love about it. I wrote about specific choirs like Off the Beat and the Kelly Writers’ House. Choral singing and writing are my strongest activities, and I fell in love with both of those things.

I also wrote about my bleeding toe. Long story…if you want to read it, I’ll send it to you lol

hahaha, sure, PM me :)
