<p>Could I write something completely made up? Like can I write about the day I fought godzilla or something? Or is that too odd? I really have nothing to write about.</p>

<p>There’s no such thing as a cliche topic, just a cliche way of writing it.</p>

<p>Trust me, everything topic has already been covered and adcoms have already read your “unique” topic 10 or more times.</p>

<p>Whether this is true or not, the point is you need to write with your unique voice and reflect on your topic with true, personal thought. You can cover the most overdone topic and make it the best essay ever, and you can write a terrible essay about an unheard of topic. I know this sounds incredibly vague, but it’s hard to say without having specific essay examples on hand.</p>

<p>Basically, none of the topics mentioned in this thread should be excluded from your list of potential topics if you have something truly great to share about that topic.</p>

<p>If your essay is personal, detailed, and revealing–if your essay is so you that only you could write it–then it won’t be cliche.</p>

<p>On the other hand, if the essay mainly dwells on common knowledge, such as “Hard work pays off”, “I learned how to accept defeat”, “People are alike everywhere”, “Music can free the soul”, etc., then it might merit rethinking.</p>
