Clothes Dryer Recommendations?

From the sound of things, our dryer may be about to bite the dust. It’s a Maytag electric model that we already repaired once several years ago and the plastic grid that separates the dryer from the lint filter is broken, so I don’t want to spend money on another repair. We’re not looking for a combo since our Fisher & Paykel washer works fine and doesn’t need replacing. Any suggestions? Looking for decent quality, moisture sensor, not apt to burst into flames.

When I find myself with a pile of wet, molding laundry and a dead dryer, I want to be prepared to make a quick decision, preferably based on the collective wisdom of CC.

Thanks, all.

I subscribe to Consumer Reports and the top rated electric (and gas) dryers are made by LG. Reviews are also very good for these dryers. LGDLE2701 is a solid model. I personally own a GE dryer and they used to (please note: USED TO) be top rated, but not any longer. Samsung also makes a good product but some consumers report poorer customer service and parts availability with them.

By the way, if your Fisher & Paykel washer is still under warranty, even on your exteded warranty through your CC company, I would purchase an extended warranty as they are not known to be the most reliable machines long term.

Thanks very much for the info. Unfortunately the washer is not under warranty. I purchased it quickly when the old one stopped working, hence my plan to have researched dryer options before it’s time to make a decision. I’ll take a look at the LG models and keep an eye on prices. I really appreciate your taking the time to post.

We got the Maytag Bravos 700? series last week. Has see-thru compartment as does the washer. Also got the companion Bravos 700 washer. So far, so good. Looked at Sears, Lowes, BBuy, a local DC appliance chain and HDepot before purchase from Sears.

Remember Zippy zip? He would go ga-ga to see the wash/dry cycles thru the glass…

I also have the Maytag Bravos (for over a year now). I love the super capacity and it does a good job of drying the clothes except for small loads on the sensor cycle…for small loads I need to set the time on the dryer or the sensor says the load is dry after like 20 minutes. We got ours at Lowe’s and got the 3 year extended warranty.

Thank you both for information about your Maytag Bravos. I’ll add that one to my short list as well. I hadn’t even thought about a new dryer until the current one started making sounds over the weekend, so I’m a bit behind the curve in terms of knowing what’s out there. I really appreciate your suggestions. Dudedad, I do not remember Zippy!

We are thrilled with the quality and life(so far!) of our Whirlpool.
Plus an aspect that some like to consider- it is American owned and American made. Not to start a whole thread on American made- just to throw the info out there for those who prefer to give Americans jobs.

I love my Electrolux!

Two more brands to add to the list. Thank you both for your suggestions!
