Clothing With an Arm Cast

I fell on the ice and broke both bones in my right wrist (dominant hand). Cast is above elbow with elbow at 90 degree angle. I need to wear semi-professional clothes to work. I have stretchy elastic waist pants I can get on by myself (from a leg injury), but am stumped on tops. None of my cardigans want to go over the bend in the cast.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Could you use something like a pashmina or large lightweight wrap? You could add a decorative pin on the shoulder if you have anything like that.

Buy some shirts in bigger size, use a belt or something to gather the extra material in the back so it fits over the cast, or short sleeves and a cardigan buttoned at the neck wrapped over your shoulders.

T shirts, or sleeveless tops, with short sleeved cardigans. Here is a selection:

I feel for you, as you obviously live where it is cold, and need to stay warm. Good wool scarf or shawl to add a layer?

Dolman sleeves.

Dolman sleeved cardigans over a short sleeved sweater or shirt or shell.

Dolman sleeved light weight sweaters.

These are all over the place, and on big markdowns right now.

If you’re up for buying something new, I remembered seeing this sweater poncho in the latest Coldwater Creek catalog: [Coldwater Creek](http://www.coldwatercreek.com/product-detail/62763/69488/shimmer-sweater-poncho.aspx?colorid=K14&refLink=misses-sweaters.aspx) . Or these shorter sleeve tops with wide opening sleeves: [Coldwater Creek](http://www.coldwatercreek.com/product-detail/63735/70557/silk-cotton-kimono-sweater.aspx?colorid=H67&refLink=misses-sweaters.aspx;) [Coldwater Creek](http://www.coldwatercreek.com/product-detail/62676/69401/hint-of-glimmer-sweater.aspx?colorid=H10&refLink=misses-sweaters.aspx)

I am writing this on my computer…with my left hand guiding the mouse. I learned to do this when I broke my shoulder. (Let me say first I am sorry for the pain that you are having.) I used for layering my husband’s t shirts. His size and brand new. If it hurts to get into the shirt make a cut on the underarm of the shirt. I purchased Joie soft shirts. They have lots of room. And while not inexpensive one of two should get you through.

Thanks all. I should be able to make some of these ideas work. I appreciate the input!

Dolman sleeves that are open at the bottom are often called “flutter sleeve.” Check out “flutter sleeve sweater” on shopstyle, polyvore, pinterest etc. or search on a store website.

Hope your recovery is speedy!
