Help out a foolish girl. =D

You have a bad college counselor at an exclusive prep school that can’t give you a clue? Have you discussed this with your parents? For $40K I’d demand better.

Well, we believe she’s harboring ancient resentment about not getting into an ivy.

Or that could be just urban myth.

I have spoken to my parents (both econ Ph.D Mich) and my SAT tutor (Yale grad) and English teacher (Yale grad too, Ph.D philosophy) and they think I should ignore her incoherent bable. (I said I wanted an ivy or a top NE school, she suggested Iona.)

I think you’re a shoe in for UMich and have pretty decent chances at most of your other ones. I must say, I am very jealous of the scores posted on here.

Thank you Cvjn, may the college gods smile upon you.

I agree, some of the asian kids are posting 800s in all the SAT IIs available. While I think that there’s some major grade inflation going down here, I bet there’s a lot of truth to it.

Well, this forum attracts overachievers. After all, I came here in the first place to talk about TASP (99th percentile children on the PSATs.) Then everyone blew me away with their awsomeness.

yeah I came here in October and lurked for a bit. Mostly because everytime I came here, I literally got depressed at the scores compared.

Then I sucked it up and decided to post. But honestly I think you have a very good chance at most of your schools. Other than your SAT Math which I’m guessing is a BIT low for top Ivy’s, it’s still damn impressive in my opinion. I’d say raise that math score by 30-40 points and you have good chances.

I do wonder though, one thing that I firmly believe in for top schools is that they often look for students with passion. While you have pretty great EC’s; which of them are you… really passionate about / love? I ask because often that’s what college’s ask and supposedly it’s better to list a great one than all of them.

why no ap’s in your junior year? seems like an odd thing to do.

Variable: At my school, new students regardless of grade aren’t allowed to take APs. So it’s not my fault. The only AP new kids can take is Eng Lit but I took that sophmore year.

I’ll get the math score up a bit hopefully this time (knock on wood). I am passionate about volleyball but more importantly, jewelry. I was passionate enough to get my degree in it after all. =O

Any other opinions?

Sounds like you have really good chances, but it’s always hard to tell at these places. Your grades are awesome and your Sat scores are already really great, would be amazing if you could get the math up and all. I think your ECs are pretty darn cool and impressive, if you get good recs and great essays you have not so much to worry about. But what kind of school do you want? From what it sounds like, you would probably do better at a small school, but I really don’t know much about your personality. But this is pretty much the most important decision to make about college: big, medium, or small? I can give you lots of suggestions if you figure out the answer to that question.

I want to go to a mid-sized school in or near a city. I’d prefer the northeast.

It’s very important to me that I go to a school with lots of accomplished kids. My school in Montana was full of underachievers and I don’t want to repeat the experience of being the only one raising my hand.

Oh, wow, I’m in a top high school and yet that STILL happens. Lazy underachievers always make me want to stab someone in the eye (sorry for the graphic imagery). :D

lol, I agree. What’s the point of paying this insane tuition (more than the average american family makes in a year…sheesh) if you aren’t going to take advantage of it?

Well, I guess my counselor is doing better. I attended a college seminar (we have to go to one once a week) and although I didn’t learn much new stuff, she had some better ideas.)
