Clueless student needing help to get back to school

Hello all, my name is Daniel. I’m new to the forums and am seeking some help and advice on my current situation. I was attending CSU Fullerton with a major in Psychology since Fall 2011. I then switched my major to Business, as I wasn’t sure exactly what I wanted to do. I entered college without much motivation, which affected my attendance and grades. I eventually dropped out of college in Spring 2014 with a GPA of 2.62. I’ve finished almost all my G.E classes with the exception of a lab course. I’ve earned 72 credits, 59 of which at CSU Fullerton and 13 from high school.

I’ve decided that I want to finish my education and get a degree. However, I’m clueless as to what’s best for me. I don’t know if I should reapply to CSU Fullerton and finish my education there. Or would it be best to transfer to a community college nearby, get my GPA up, and try to transfer to a UC or Fullerton again. Like I stated, I’ve very confused and bit worried that I will have to start all over again. I’ve regained the motivation to go back to school. If anyone could provide some help that would be great. Thank you.

I suggest going to community college. You’ll save money and get to finish your GEs. You may only have to go for a semester or two since it seems that you completed most of your GEs. But that also depends on whether your units from Fullerton will transfer to the school you attend.

Are you still planning on majoring in Business? Then you might want to discuss this with an advisor in the business school at Fullerton. Since you were already accepted there and you are currently in good standing, you might see if they have any idea if you would get let back in.

I do still plan on majoring in Business. In what terms constitutes as being in “good standing”? I just stopped going to my classes and registering for classes the following semester. Will this impact my readmission back into the university? Also, if I’ve done most of my GE courses, how will going to community college affect those credits? I only have 1 lab course that I have yet to take to finish all GE courses. Will I have to repeat those courses I’ve already taken, say the ones I got a B or a C and then it’ll help improve my GPA if I get a higher grade?

Good standing means not on probation or suspended. Was your GPA in the last semester a 2.0 or better? I would only go to CC if I couldn’t get into a 4 year school.

Yes, my GPA was a 2.62, so I was not on academic probation. How likely would it be for me to be readmitted back to CSU Fullerton if I applied on CSUMentor?

Since you are in good standing, you probably don’t need to reapply to Fullerton at all. Make an appointment with an academic advisor on campus. Bring your transcript and ask how to proceed.
