The list on CMU’s site is comprehensive. All of the Oakland hotels would be good as CMU is in Oakland, and you will get a real feel for the area, University of Pittsburgh, etc. Those would be closer to campus than the downtown ones, which is a bus or cab ride away (but closer to Point Park if you’re inclined to kill two birds with one stone). The Hampton Inn in the Oakland column is actually right nextdoor to the Pittsburgh Playhouse, Point Park’s performance space (Point Park’s Playhouse is not on their campus, but in Oakland).

In the shadyside/east end section, the Courtyard by Marriott Shadyside/Oakland and the SpringHill Suites Bakery Square (brand new) are very convenient to CMU too. The rest in that column are B&B types.

I’m guessing, but I’ll bet most of these on the list run a shuttle to or near CMU from the hotel.
