CMU or CMC

<p>Claremont Mckenna College or Carnege Mellon University?
im torn between the two. We all know those 2 schools are awesome schools. I just dont know which one i want to go to!!</p>

<p>Claremont Mckenna:
pros:
–its in california
–its a 1 hour train ride from LA
–its got awesome weather
–its also known for a great social life as well as good academics</p>

<p>cons:
–is it as reputable as Carnegie Mellon?
–is it just as easy to find a job after college?
–being so small - do they have enough funds to provide a good education with good resources?
–its a pretty small school. ive heard gossip spreads like wildfire and its like high school. i hate high school drama.</p>

<p>Carnegie Mellon University:
pros:
–its got an awesome reputation world wide
–its got fantastic academics
–some ppl say regardless of having a reputation that states its social life is practically non existant - people end up having an awesome time! - but then again i guess this is quite subjective.</p>

<p>cons:
–its in Pittsburgh
–the weather is crabby
–ive heard that the social life isnt that great</p>

<p>I am pretty academically driven but i do need a balance of social life and work. after all, i am going to spend 4 years of my life at one of these great institutions. also, growth is fostered both in and outside of the academic program. I am also considering NYU and USC. I want to go for business and psych (and possibly even chemistry). ive been accepted with my major undeclared.</p>

<p>I am also considering visiting as it does determine 4 years of my life. what do you reckon? afterall - opinions are subjective. i am an international student.</p>

<p>The issues you have about resources are almost non-existent due to the Claremont Consortium… also the gossip thing, but to a lesser extent.</p>

<p>Look at the flexibility that a school like CMU will allow, because from my impression, it doesn’t seem as easy to do a dual major/double major/major/minor as it would be if at a school like Claremont or even USC.
Look at the requirements for each major and the electives offered because this could be a huge deciding feature whether you are aware of it or not.</p>

<p>If you care about rankings, Princeton Review ranked CMC as #2 for Best Career/Job Placement Services. The CMC student population is very proactive about internship/work experience, so I don’t think your job prospects coming out of CMC are really limited unless you’re idle while at your time at CMC. Being idle at any school whether its Harvard, Stanford, etc decreases your chances of any type of employment, especially when your peers(who are active) are bound to have more to offer for prospective employer. No one hands you things in the real world, not without paying your dues or being born into the right family.</p>

<p>PS based on your preferences, It seems like your choice should be between USC and CMC.</p>
