CMU or PSU

Lets say i get into Carnegie Mellon as well as Penn State. Which college would be better for me?

I dont wanna go to CMU just because its like a nerd herd there and i wanna actually have fun at college and ive heard they are one of the ugliest schools in the country.

Would going to CMU over penn state really get me a lot higher paying job after i graduate or would graduating from penn state get me the same amount of money?

Personally, I would choose CMU. It is NOT a nerd herd there.

Agree with QuicklyTea. CMU has very good programs in the visual and performing arts, which make for a diverse student body.

If going to a fun party school is a priority, you should choose Penn State. While CMU has a better reputation, you’ll get a good education at Penn State and will have plenty of job opportunities.

D goes to PITT. Campus is adjacent to CMU. There are very normal kids at PITT as well, and the real feel of a college town because of all the schools around. She has many friends at CMU as well and they all seem very happy. LOVE the town!!

The mid 25% SAT range at CMU is 1290-1500
The mid 25% SAT range at PSU is 1090-1300

Approx 75% of CMU’s students scored higher on SATs than the average student at PSU.

As such, the competition at CMU will be much more intense and it would likely be much more challenging for you to rise to the top at CMU than at PSU.

What are your SAT scores?

It is a huge advantage to attend CMU for certain fields, like computer science, so it will partly depend on your interests.

However, if you can’t have fun in Pittsburgh, I’m not sure you’ll have fun in State College either, because there is a lot more to do, with a lot more diversity of activity, in the 'burgh.
