Any one CMU- Where Am I in the Process change?
I know in the past that some who auditioned for MT would
be considered for Acting and it would show an extra line
under the orginal MT in the portal stating acting too. In other
words, they got in for acting, but not MT. looks like from the
past when that happened during the week it was that weekend calls were being made
so just wondering if anyone can see any change anywhere.
If things happen as they have in the past- those accepted will get calls, then status will change in portal and/or letter sent. Also, as I understand it, if you audition for MT you are automatically considered for acting, you didn’t have to indicate separately.
Yes, but what I am referring to is what happened last year noted in phone calls 2014. A girl auditioned for CMU MT
and her portal changed on something like 3/18 adding a theatre line not just MT and then she was call on 3/21 offering her a theatre spot. Also there was a post from even father back and it turned out that person was waitlisted for both MT and Theatre. Sooooo, because I have nothing better to do (as I work from home and I am easily distracted), I am obsesing over son’s portals…hahahha and I am trying to figure out if portals have changed with anyone…that maybe calls will be this weekend…
Again, if last 2 years timing means anything it would be NEXT weekend, not this one
Oh yeah…got it. So, if process holds true…Possilbe portal change (if being considered for acting too)
would be sometime next week, not this week…S autitioned for MT, but stated his desire to also be considered for acting… so just being obessive compulsive… His portal still says MT…It is just a little clue into if your even being considered at all. And the chances are just so slim…
I think at CMU, if you audition for MT, you are also considered for Acting and don’t have to even indicate that to them. My D auditioned there for MT. She was Priority Waitlisted for Acting.
Another thing, in her year, and what seems to be the pattern since then too, is that those who are Priority Waitlisted don’t have their portal change with a decision when the acceptances and denials come out and they get notified after all that happens…making you wonder “why didn’t my portal change?” or “why didn’t I get a decision?” Then, a few days later, the Priority Waitlist packet arrives.
When my kid applied, he was given the option of listing three programs/majors in priority order. When he checks “Where am I” it shows those three in a box in order of his preference.
@boom22, Carnegie Mellon is in NYC this week focusing on their senior showcase. They probably aren’t thinking much about next year’s class right now, so I doubt they’ll be making calls this weekend. My guess is they will come later next week.
Last year the calls went out what would be next Sunday.
Last year calls went out 4 days after their showcase. Their last showcase this year was 3/10…Eeeeek! Buckle up. They will definitely make calls in March. Just a few more weeks. BAL everyone! Thanks for being here for the support!

@Dradsmom My daughter auditioned for MT and was called/offered a spot in Acting. She was thrilled. She is an actor/singer/dancer and didn’t expect to get in for MT, though we thought she had a chance for acting.
Also, we were tipped off slightly by the “Where am I in the Process” portal. Her portal changed on March 18th. Under “College Choices” it used to say:
1 CFA DRA MTH
(which stands for College of Fine Arts / School of Drama / Musical Theatre)
A new line was added on the 18th to look like this.
1 CFA DRA ACT
2 CFA DRA MTH
I did a little research from previous years to see if others’ portals ever changed, and I found one that had. That person ended up being waitlisted for both MT and Acting.
So I had a feeling that since ACT was added, D was either waitlisted or accepted into Acting.
Turns out in our case it was an acceptance and D got the call on the 21st.
But it asks on commonapp the 1st and 2nd choice. Anyway, all the “big” schools are calling this week. Can’t wait for the wait to be over. Thank goodness my 2nd child is not into performing.
My kid’s portal has always listed both. I checked again this morning and it hasn’t changed in several months.

Last year my S was placed on a waitlist (which he never thought he would get off the waitlist), he auditioned for MT. He was eventually accepted off the waitlist, but for acting, not MT. He decided to accept the offer and then in July he received an email that they opened up another spot in their MT class for him, so he was switched from acting to MT… so anything is possible. Hang in there… it’s great school and remember the schools foundation is acting, so if your S or D gets accepted into acting, they will get some of the best training 
@inspired59 I think I know who your son is, some of his theatre friends, and his prep coach. What a wild ride, and didn’t it work out well! I hope he is happy and doing splendidly. Yes, it seems anything is possible. I keep hearing these stories with surprise endings.
Any body have a change? S still says MTH- was hoping for an added line for acting as he really didnt feel like he would be considered for MT/or have that good of an experience with his songs (even though that is how he went in, to be considered for both). But all is good as
he has a few really good options. And I hate to feel Augustus Gloopish wishing for more! MORE! more! and the Golden Ticket…But, stil… Hard not to want that…hahahha WAITING IS TORTURE

the wrong info in somehow…
