CNN: 'RapeLay' video game goes viral amid outrage

according to wiki, that game was released in 2006 O.O

but sadly, it was made by a japanese developer, so I assume we can’t really do much about it (assuming most of us are in the US)

If Grand Theft Auto is legal, then this game should be too.

But putting that aside… What the hell? What kind of sick perverts actually play this game? This isn’t even porn, it’s porn that involves hurting an innocent human. You have to be severely sadistic just to not be sickened by seeing this game.

^
It is porn. And people get off to it. One of the top women’s sexual fantasies is of rape, and of course this doesn’t translate in to real life. As our sex ed teacher said, “don’t yuck someone’s yum.”

“In 2009, the company discontinued supporting Rapelay due to controversy surrounding it in the United States.”

Good job, CNN.

That’s just disgusting. But if you think about it, it’s a pretty good market. There’s always someone who’s more interested…

Murder is worse than rape and there are hundreds of games on store shelves that have murder and gore. If you ban this game, you would need to ban all the other games, and that just won’t happen and it’s silly to believe that it would. If you don’t like the game, don’t play it.

As an avid videogamer myself, I have killed probably 50,000 people in online multiplayer games (omg I’m wasting my life) and I firmly believe that virtually raping people is infinitely worse than virtually killing people. For me, at least, killing video games aren’t about living out a secret desire to be a serial killer - it’s a way for me to devise strategical gameplay methods that allow me to assert my intellectual superiority over other people. Also, it’s fun to talk trash and waste time. But playing a “rape” game… well, there’s no real motive besides fulfilling perverted desires. I agree with the ban.

^so so true,

I don’t even remember how long ago i’ve heard of this story, simply from keeping up with japan-related blogs. Anyways, I am not convinced that anything in a video game is destroying moral standards or encouraging anyone to anything. I highly doubt a normal person would ever pick up a game and then feel the sudden urge to re-enact the game. That being said I still think anyone that would play a rape-simulation game is a weird person indeed, but I would also be glad that they are preoccupying themselves with something than committing a grave offense. Also I think sensationalist articles about such things is a bad idea, and that really we should be focused on real world issues instead of those that just make us feel outraged because a news corporation wants to objectify us into potential viewers. Who is at fault? Pretty much everyone. Don’t feed real life ■■■■■■.

Outrageous and disgusting? Yes
Should it be banned? Absolutely not. It’s a GAME. As others have said, if GTA, etc. are allowed, then this should be, too.

The thing is video games can lead to people with secret desires to become a serial killer. And there are thousands of other video games that allow you to assert your intellectual superiority over others without you having to kill thousands of people. I’ve always thought that america reacts more negatively towards too much sex compared to too much violence. I believe that both should be banned, but I still feel wrong when I think about a person killing thousands of video game people. I just don’t understand the joy or fun in that.

^The argument with that is, is that there’s really no reason as to why people suddenly enjoyed killing people with the power of a controller, now I won’t lie, I get some joy out of it. 90% of successful games consists of killing something or someone, somehow. Banning games with killing would essentially mean banning video gaming.
