DD17 attempted to set up a Coalition account, since at least one, maybe two of her schools will be using the Coalition Application. She’s tried twice, and both times has not received the account verification email. So, thoughts? Obviously not a crisis at this point since it is early (and this is why she’s doing it early, to give time for problem solving and trouble shooting), but certainly doesn’t bode well when it fails right out of the gate…

I am an independent college counselor in NJ, so I set up a “fake” account for myself just to check out the Coalition application. While I do not know why you are having problems setting up your account, I can say that this application still seems like a work in progress and I for one am concerned. I sat through an hour long webinar on the application hosted by several Coalition representatives. My take away was that even those intimately involved seem to feel that that have some kinks to work out. I also spoke to a guidance counselor at my local high school and asked if they had received any training or were planning on working with their students on this…the answer was “no!” They don’t really know anything about it. This is very troubling. Several schools (U Maryland for ex) will be using this new format exclusively for the 2016-17 application. (I called UMD today and confirmed that this is indeed true). They have a few more weeks to work their kinks out…
She was finally able to create the account and got a verification email, so she can get into the system now. It is troubling that some schools are using it as their sole platform this year with it being so new. The fact that she was unable to successfully create an account before but it worked today tells me that parts of the system are effectively offline part of the time. Hopefully they get that fixed in the next month, when the whole thing supposedly goes live and is ready for applications to begin…
