What does the “VET, NOV, TES, TAM, EN, TVM” mean? in the Pton symbol? what do the colors and other details signify?

Here’s some more, taken from the Princeton Weekly Bulletin of Oct. 24, 2005:

“It is described in the trustees minutes of Feb. 13, 1896, as: a shield resting upon a circle. In the upper part of the shield an open Bible with Latin characters VET NOV TESTAMENTUM signifying the Old and New Testaments. In the lower part a chevron, denoting the rafters of a building. In the spaces between the sides of the shield and the circle the motto DEI SUB NUMINE VIGET (Under Gods power she flourishes).”

And the orange is from William III, of the House of Orange-Nassau.

I love your name armavirumque! I’m in AP Vergil right now. :D

Here is the Princeton seal in ASCII:

litho! are you around often or just bored during break?

And Vergil is the badass of badasses :)

I have a severe allergy to “chances” threads, and an extraordinarily low tolerance for Byerly debates, so I had no reason to be around until the 2010 EDers got their acceptances. I’ll be around more often now, but only on this sub-board.

Definitely not bored, though… Breaks are short, and I’ve another unusually crazy reading period coming up. Also a boyfriend visiting for New Year’s :-)

FYI it’s called a “coat of arms”, note a “code…”
