<p>So I’m a junior and I got my report card yesterday, and 5 girls including me in my class of 20, got 87’s, which was the highest grade given. We thought it was odd that all of us got 87s when we had different test grades and thought that we should have gotten higher. The one girl said that, our teacher probably wanted to keep our grades lower than they should be so that next quarter we will do better since that it what colleges like. Her grading system is: 70% tests, 15% essays, 5% participation and 10% quizzes. I had a 76, 83, 86 on my tests. An A+, A and B+ on my essays and a 9.5 out of 10 quiz average, plus full credit for participation. Which should of been higher than an 87. Anyway do you guys think it was conincidence or not?</p>
<p>Coincidence. Your test average is 70% of your grade and it averages to be 81.667%. If you were to get perfect on everything else, then your highest possible grade is an 87.166, but since you weren’t perfect everywhere else, it is feasible that 87% was your grade, maybe even inflated slightly.</p>
