Colby vs Grinnell vs Kenyon vs UC Davis vs UMD College Park

Deciding between these five schools… I want to major in neuroscience. I’m fairly nerdy, but also athletic/outdoorsy.
I have some great offers from each, so it’s really hard to choose.

Colby Presidential Scholar, Grinnell significant merit aid, Kenyon, UC Davis significant merit aid, UMD merit aid and honors ILS progam

Well, grinnell doesn’t have a neuro major. They have a concentration.
What are your postgraduate plans, as of now?

You can’t narrow it down more than that? They are so different–it really comes down to who you are as to which ones fit better.

@Ctesiphon‌ I’m leaning towards medical school as of right now.

And I’m aware that Grinnell only has a concentration- I just want to major/ concentrate in whatever each school’s equivalent to the neuroscience area is (preferably the more biology heavy side as opposed to psychology heavy).

Fair enough. if you are only seeking at minimum significant coursework in neuroscience (like concentration/minor) Grinnell will serve you just as well.

If you are looking at med school I’d pick the lowest cost option. Unless $$ is no factor they will all prepare you above adequately for med school. You have schools all across the country as well and in vastly different geographical settings. I visited Grinnell, it is in the middle of nowhere, literally. The College is basically the extent of anything fun that goes in the town. I can’t comment on the other ones though.

@cptofthehouse‌ I’m the kind of kid that has a wide variety of interests and can really find my place wherever you put me… So I’m planning on visiting these schools (some for a second time), but I really feel as if each has their own benefits and drawbacks

Congratulations! You have some excellent choices. I hope you have an opportunity to visit the schools. Colby’s a wonderful college especially if you are outdoorsy. The access to professors at Colby is amazing and the Presidential Scholarship will give you even greater access to research and special opportunities. You will have an opportunity to get to know and develop collegial relationships with your professors at Colby. Quite a few years ago I was a double major in Biology and Psychology at Colby. Both departments were terrific. And Colby students tend to be really nice. (Nothing against any other school listed. Just a comment I hear often from folks.) I wish you the best in your decision.
