Colby vs. Wesleyan

<p>Hey all,<br>
I am a transfer student from the University of Maryland who is deciding whether to attend Colby College or Wesleyan University. I spent the past year as part of City Year Boston where I worked in the inner-city public schools doing community service which has inspired me to go into the field of education. I also want to play basketball in school. I would come into either school as a Sophomore.
How do the schools differ and which one would give me the best platform to go into the field of education?</p>

<p>Wesleyan, though not what one might call an “urban” college, is located near the center of Middletown, CT, a city of 45,000. There are several public schools within walking distance of campus; it is fairly easy to do volunteer work within the school system. Just be careful how you broach the subject of sex education: [District</a> invited ?sex educators?; failed to OK content of class - The Middletown Press : Serving Middletown, CT](<a href=“http://www.middletownpress.com/articles/2009/12/10/news/doc4b206b6b15e19894291261.txt]District”>http://www.middletownpress.com/articles/2009/12/10/news/doc4b206b6b15e19894291261.txt)</p>

<p>At our Colby visit, we were told that over 400 students are involved in mentoring kids in the Waterville schools.</p>
