Which college is better, harder to get into, etc. Im trying to figure out which one i should apply to.

what do u want in a college: student size, campus, planned major, social life…
It might be easier for people to help you out, otherwise there decisions will probably be biased towards what they like not what u want in a college.

As far as academics, both are really good schools and difficult to get into. Rice has a little lower acceptance rate than colgate, which are 24 percent and 31 percent respectively. Really depends on if you want to go to New York or Texas. Can’t really go wrong with either.

Jerod

Hendrix is correct-- but to answer your basic question- Rice is harder to get into.

Rice’s acceptance rate for this year’s freshman class was 22%.

Colgate is in a small college town (remote) which is beautiful. Rice is in Houston, but has a great campus and it doesn’t FEEL like Houston. Houston has a lot of cultural offerings. Colgate is cold, Rice is hot and muggy much of the year. Both are excellent schools. Colgate is hilly, Rice is flat.

Rice is also bigger, I think.

One is a food. One is a toothpaste brand. Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Seriously, they are VERY different types of schools - Colgate is a liberal arts school in the middle of no where with a large majority of students from the northeast. Rice is a research university in the middle of a large city with a large majority of students from Texas. If you want engineering, Rice is your choice because you won’t find it at Colgate. Both are excellent schools but it’s like comparing apples and oranges…or Rice and toothpaste. :)
