Collaborating/Studying at Rice

While undecided prospies continue to weigh out factors, I just thought about
something else that speaks to how collaborative Rice students are … the abundance
of study groups – where students bring their laptops, books, food and review a term’s worth of material together in rooms in Fondren Library. (And not only before finals …)

It’s finals time now, and my son has been busy meeting with study groups for various classes. They all want to do well, and so they talk about the reading assignments, analyze their class notes, ask lots of questions, and leave behind cookie crumbs – they help each other. Owls at work --getting ready for what’s in store.

My son knew Rice was the right place for him mostly by talking with the kids he met there. He liked the classes and profs, and as a prospie ran into an extraordinary range of conversations, like nowhere else. He still does – after class, in the laundry room, at
dinner in whichever servery he chooses to eat in, over a Saturday night dinner in Rice Village …
