Hello, I am a currently a sophomore, who live near Atlanta near Georgia Tech.I have a 4.0 GPA and take many AP classes, I am taking AP Stats and AP Euro right now(Only AP class offered to 10th grade), and took AP Human Geography in Freshman year. (the only AP class) However, I believe that i lack in EC and want to improve it over the summer.
Currently My EC’s are
9th Math Team
9th Golf Team(Tryout next week, We do not have a varsity golf team)
9th Beta club and 10th
9th and 10th international club
Volunteering over the summer at my local hospital
9th grade (Beginning band) 10th grade half semester( Wind) had to quit because of foreign language.
3 year district Honor Band (Trumpet)

That’s all my EC’s so far. What can things can i do to improve my EC’s? The seniors gave me an advice to research at a university, which i am very interested in.But i do not no how, Can anybody tell me how to research at a university and improve my EC’s?
Also, is dual- enrollment worth it at Georgia Tech or is it just worth to take more AP classes?

You should make sure that you do the EC’s you want to do. I think you look strong for GT if you can add some AP Math and Science. If you have not done so yet, go on the GT forum and check out the stats of those accepted.

Thanks guys for the comment

However I am still unsure on how to start a research

So sorry to be the one to tell you this but you are totally missing the point of EC’s. Caveat: Only talking about Ivy admissions here. But they will not count all the fluff you listed up there. The only thing that looks midly interesting is that you did 3 years in trumpet.

Top colleges will only care about EC’s if:

1) you show leadership (you’re the captain, founder, etc.)
2) you are obviously passionate about it (have done it for 10 years, your entire life, do it for 4 hours a day after school)
3) you are fluent in another language (ACTUALLY fluent, not like, omg I took 3 years of french but can’t say a friggin sentence! (that’s me btw))
4)you show initiative. you started a charity, a project, you self-studied for AP Literature and got a 5, etc. (this only works if you actually get a 5 though)

Taking a bunch of different and unrelated EC’s during high school clearly to beef up your application will NOT help. math, golf and trumpet have nothing to do with each other. But, FOR EXAMPLE, let’s say you LOVED music, and were taking piano, trumpet and musical theory. Then you could build an app around “I am passionate about music.”

Right now your app says “I am scattered, can’t make up my mind, and wanted to take a bunch of EC’s that I am obviously not invested in or passionate about to beef up my resume.”
