College Admission Process? how it works

Hey, i have been searching all over the internet to figure out how this works so i was wondering…

when college admissions deans grade essays and stuff, are they also looking at your transcript and application, or are there separate graders for each?

They need to understand you as a whole, so I would imagine that the same person would look over everything you have to offer in order to know what type of person you are. I think that they actually have more than 1 person look at all your stuff (as in a board doesn’t look over separate aspects of you, all of them read the essay and your transcript).

Every college admissions office has its own procedures, so the answer to your question is quite variable. To see how one admissions office handles applications, go to npr.org and search “Amherst admissions”. They did a report a few years ago, and it is quite enlightening. Or read “The Gatekeepers” by Jacques Steinberg to see how Wesleyan handled admissions.

By the way, admissions essays are not “graded” - they are generally read and related to the other elements of your application.

read a is for admission.

or better yet, don’t read it, it might make you feel insecure about yourself.

here’s the amherst thing

[Online NewsHour: A Look at Amherst College’s Admissions Process – June 22, 2004](http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/education/jan-june04/merrow_6-22.html)

A is for Admission was a great book, imo. Very good advice

Alright thanks for the help guys… I read the amherst thing, i dont feel insecure, there’s no way i would make it into that type of college anyway.
