College Admissions Gone Awry

Case #1:
4.2 WGPA (3.9 UW), captain on varsity soccer and basketball team, pretty high SATs (not really sure but probably above 2200), dad donated $100,000 to dartmouth
Result: Rejected from Dartmouth

Case #2:
1450/1600 SAT, state champion swimmer, relatively high GPA (3.7-3.8), lots of legacy for Harvard (father, aunt, grandfather, others)
Result: Deferred ED and eventually rejected from Harvard because swim coach did not want him, accepted to Columbia

Case #3:
Something like 1200/1600 SAT, also state champion swimmer, probably low GPA (3.3-3.5)
Result: Accepted to Princeton

Moral: Life sucks

I can emphathize. MY son got a 1450 / 2230 on the SAT…still not nearly good enough for Ivys, G-Town,

its important to realize the whole application when looking at these ex. course load, ecs, recs, essays etc… as you go through the boards you see everyone saying that and now its not even brought up!!!
