College Admissions in TV Shows

In Hannah Montana, how did Lily get into Stanford? I understand how Miley did (hook: being a superstar) but how did Lily? All she did was hang around Miley.
In Glee, how did Quinn Fabray get into Yale? well actually I could kind of see that… (pregnancy, straight A"s, national glee club, cheerios, etc)
I was really sad when Cole Sprouse got rejected from Yale on The Suite Life on Deck, he really deserved it!
Oh and on Good Luck Charlie, how did the main girl get into Yale???

I remember on Good Luck Charlie, Teddy emphasized her love of theatre in her interview and all but she never excelled or got any major roles.
I just find it weird that she got in while the nerd she studied with, Victor, got wait listed, and he and his friends and girlfriend always talked about how much smarter they are than Teddy.
Please forgive me for my embarrassingly extensive knowledge of Disney, I have a 5 year old sister who worships Bridget Mendler.

Alexis in Castle ends up at Columbia. A convenient plot point so she can stay on the show, since it is set in NY. But she was rejected EA by Stanford! Accepted in the RD round, though. She is valedictorian and very accomplished, though.

I think the Bailey thing and the Cody thing were at least somewhat realistic with admissions. Both were mega-smart with pretty good extracurriculars (for what they could do on a boat). And only one got in.

Although they did get their decisions awfully late.

Oh well.

Just found the Hannah Montana episode and when Lily said she’d go to CC instead of Stanford I almost choked http://youtu.be/bsgkqL7rJ8k?t=28m19s

Edit: Also pretty funny how they say Stanford like Ford the car brand.

@shawnspencer I remember that Good Luck Charlie episode too! (By the way, LOVE your username and pic!)

I do wish TV shows would be more realistic regarding college acceptance/rejection, but honestly, I knew as a younger child that universities like Stanford and Yale were extremely difficult to get into.

And @topaz1116, I wish Cody got into Yale… I mean, he took 6 AP classes as a freshman! If that’s not genius (or Yale-worthy) then I need to restudy the dictionary.

Bumping this thread because there has been so much talk about college in Pretty Little Liars. Aria was waitlisted at a school and sent a very personal letter intended for an admissions officer (who was her current boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend). The letter conveniently ended up on that person’s desk (as opposed to any other admissions officer who could have gotten it) and she was accepted off the waitlist almost immediately (as opposed to the school waiting to see their yield).

Pretty Little Liars is actually slightly more realistic than other shows in that these students aren’t getting into top stellar schools without work. Hannah, who hasn’t worked that hard but somehow did very well on her standardized tests, is not getting into super amazing schools as would happen in Disney shows. Instead, she’s getting accepted into multiple colleges that are mostly decent LACs. Spencer, the genius, got rejected from Penn but she still has many acceptances up her sleeve. Aria, who doesn’t do anything, is getting rejected everywhere. I can’t exactly remember Emily’s college situation, but her acceptances are based on the fact that she’s an amazing swimmer and she’s dedicated a huge amount of her time to the sport. Mona got accepted nearly everywhere, and although the show screwed up in saying that they were all early, which would have broken binding agreements, the show did a good job of showing that Mona was actually a genius. She did many extracurricular activities and was intellectually bright.
